  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I support colleagues in the team with various tax consulting projects, either in Employment Taxes or Share Schemes. I work within a team on client queries, producing reports and emails as well as helping on proposals and business development. Clients are either UK-based or part of a wider global project.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Within the scheme we have regular technical training sessions run by members of the department on the different tax rules. Such sessions are related to projects we are working on and wider understanding. We have also had training sessions on the technology and IT systems that we use in our day to day role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work is engaging and I am involved in a wide range of projects that keep things interesting. I have also had the opportunity to attend client meetings which gives exposure to outside of the office which was enjoyable. The programme is well structured and organised, we are kept up to date with what is going on in the office.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme itself is well structured and I am aware of the different requirements that I need to achieve in order to succeed. However, there are communication issues between the apprentices and the exam organisers internally. There is often a discrepancy between the information provided and what is the truth - this can be frustrating at times.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have been allocated a people leader and a coach who are interested both in my professional and personal development. We have regular catch up sessions with both the coach and people leader, and wider members of the team at different levels of management. I know who I can turn to should I need support or guidance and we have been informed of wider company support lines.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I am yet to go to college for a prolonged duration having instead had a handful of college days to prepare for the e-based assessments. Those college days were very useful and the support materials provided were clear, helpful and related to exam content. The tutor was engaging and happy to answer questions both during and after the college sessions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Thus far, the exams have been related to the wider tax practise through the study of Law and Ethics. Both exams were useful and I have been able to use the information learnt in my role. Studying for the written papers will provide more background knowledge to my day to day role as these papers are more tax specific.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are various societies at the office as well as a gym on site that is available to employees. We have had various socials as a team, particularly at Christmas. There are also regular emails about different events going on such as Partner's Lunch with talks about hot topics, charity initiatives and women in business events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my first six months here. I feel that I am a valued member of the team and have been accorded a decent amount of responsibility given my level. I enjoy the variety of the work and the team is friendly. I also feel that there is a strong support network and structure should I need it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Definitely apply. Even if you don't think you know enough about the certain area, the interviews are more geared to finding about you as a person and what you can bring to the team rather than previous knowledge. Understand why you want to work for the company and what skills you will be able to bring the role and show these off in the interview process.
