Apprentice Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer Review

My daily role involves reacting to production break downs on site where machinery and equipment is in need of immediate repair. When not dealing with breakdowns I am completed Planned Preventative Maintenance Work to counteract future problems. I am also given time to complete my college work on site should I need extra time to finsih anything off.

I have learnt many skills such as; Welding, Electrical Mainetenance, Mechanical Maintenance, PLC Programming, Hydraulic Systems, Pneyumatic Systems, Site Services, Retail Packaging Systems, Smoking Systems, Milling, Lathe Machining, Health & Safety Legislations, Lock Off Procedures and many more. All of which are relevant to engineering and most are put to practice on site.

I enjoy the programme because it has block release instead of day release. This means the year is broken up evenly between factory and college to keep my mind fresh. Every day is also different, so many skills are learnt over a relatively short period of time. This means my skill set has increased vastly every year.

The programme is fairly new so there are a few speed bumps currently being addressed. Mostly the course is well organised so all block releases are on time and nor issues has arisen with hotel bookings etc. Looking at the groups after me it is definitely improving overall. There is an end point in sight!

I am able to talk to my designated supervisor daily with any issues or concerns I have. There is a lot of freedom in this so there is always time to ask for help. Should I need help on college queries I also have my lectruing tutor to contact via email.

There is always support just an email away, especially from college lecturers. The course does require quite a lot of independent time to complete work reports etc. to meet the standards. But any issues I have come across have been resolved in a very short space of time as I am able to

There are many parts that help me art my work place, such as PLC programming and Hydraulic/Pneumatic systems. There are parts whoch may not be used on site in certain factories, however the skills are still beneficial to have should you move on to a different role later down the line.

Different sites will have different events on and it is purely choice to attend. I am unsure exactly what is avaliable but I can ask should I wish to get involved. I have outside hobbies taking up my time as it is, this is why I am unsure of the system in place at my factory.

Because there are many routes within the company to go down to can use an array of skills. My biggest thing is that every day is differnet and there are different challenges knocking on the door all the time. I enjoy walking through the door not knowing what will be in front of me.

Be completely open minded and honest about what it is you are looking for, becuase staff at tulip are always looking to suit your needs as well as the companies. They're main aim to to achieve the best possible outcome for all parties in order to create a better working environment.
