  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves contacting customers with the bank, who earn over £75000 a year, to perform a financial review. A financial review will include their saving and borrowing needs, as well as any ways that they could also make or save money currently and in the near , including savings accounts and investment options.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed a number of new skills including the basic maths and English development, such as learning correlation of investment options in hedge funds or using mortgage calculators in affordability, rate switches and mortgage cost/ My emotional economics in everyday conversation has been majorly beneficial and my use of standard computer programs like excel have developed.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The program seemed like a lot at first, with different tools and work being scattered across websites. Overall it has been enjoyable and my opinions , thoughts and feelings are taken into consideration along the way. As this is not a funded program it does seem pointless to have to fill in forms such as learning log when it provides no benefit to me.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is well organised divided into monthly subsections that allow for easy organisation in self study and learning. The LIBF is very well structured and my talent coach allows for a good deal of flexibility to fit into my current working pattern. The only downside was having no access to study materials for 6 weeks initially and rushing to catch up.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My main beneficial support is my manager, who has been fighting hard to allow us to have the best apprenticeship experiences. currently we are receiving the 28 hours we by contract should be given, however this was not always the case. It is still a struggle constantly to get the minimum time we require from management who do not understand the apprenticeship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider I have only interacted with through talent coach. Any queries are answered quickly, dates are flexible to fit in with work and on occasion personal life. For everyone else who has passed, the time off for exams has been enough and the support has been personalised to their strengths and weaknesses.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training that I have received and the knowledge I've gained has had a direct benefit to my job. The depth that I am able to discuss products, needs , legislation with the customers and help direct them to the right area has increase dramatically since I started. This gives the customer far improved service.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Work has no direct extra curricular activities that I am aware of. The staff are mostly friendly enough to have developed friendships outside of the office so there are events such as football that are performed by staff outside the office together. So far work organised events tend to be limited to diversity and charity events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The atmosphere is friendly and the staff tend to be more knowledgeable, considerate and friendly than most work places. There is support for those that need it, as well as great education and development possibilities for future careers. it is also a good opportunity to learn the basics in banking as the training is there for those who need it.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Be prepared for a lengthy wait, the screening process is lengthy and fraught with errors, I personally had to give my evidences and qualifications 3 times after the initial screening process and they require information that isn't always readily available. Also be aware if you know someone who works for Barclays that your friend could receive a bonus for recommending you.
