  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • It involves proactively calling Mass affluent clients on a dialler to gain insight into what is important to them in regards to their finances complete a financial review of their accounts to assess their financial needs and also to offer products and services that fulfil their current and future needs.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have achieved a certificate in retail banking conduct of business and I have also gained qualifications in functional maths and English skills all of which have increased my confidence in the workplace and my day to day life. The banking qualification has also given me a deeper understanding of retail banking and the regulations therein.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It is very enjoyable, I would say that the most enjoyable part of it for me is the support network we have as a team and the value we feel and level of understanding that my department has for the programme. I feel that my colleagues see and appreciate the hard work that myself and other apprentices put in.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At first there was very little structure in the programme but as the time has progressed it has got a lot better. To begin with we did not receive a lot of info on what was expected of us and we struggled to find our feet. We have given feedback on this and since then the programme has gotten much better.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Our employer gives us adequate time off from regular work activities to let us focus on our studies (approx. 20 hours per month) there are also been several in house workshops that directly relate to the programme which have helped enormously with our development and added to our knowledge and skills

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • To begin with the programme involves a lot of sell learning so through online systems but tour talent coach was always available to speak to us by phone or email if we had any questions and since we are now progressing to final assessment we have had weekly face to face meetings to work on our portfolios

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • When I started in my role I had very limited knowledge of how the company and even the wider industry operated, 12 month since I know feel confident in my ability to have complex discussions about my industry and it has also helped me in my daily life as well.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Since the start of the programme I have been involved in several extra curricular activities such as taking part in a charity volunteering event and also a video shoot promoting the apprenticeship programme which will be used to let new and prospective apprentices see what life is like as a Barclays apprentice.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It has a great support network with unlimited possibilities in regards to advancement as well as a culture of supporting colleague well being which includes a fantastic benefit and bonus structure, a great starting wage. I honestly feel like this is the best job I have ever had and would be a great start to anyone's career.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Be honest, say exactly what's on your mind as it is a very open culture here at Barclays. The support is fantastic the skills and knowledge you will gain will set you in good stead even if you decide not to continue with Barclays. And the rewards for your hard work are great.
