  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Supporting vulnerable adults with daily living tasks such as washing, dressing, supporting with meals, taking part in activities throughout the day, speaking with families and health professionals, completing paperwork with an overview of the customers day. Speaking with other colleagues to ensure good communication over the day, reporting and concerns i have to management

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Training is ongoing, when I joined I was 16year old and only had experience of watching my nan, joining Anchor has developed me so much not just through what I have learnt as part of training but for me as well, I am so much more confident not just in my role but also in the outside world

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It was hard going at first as I had a lot to learn, staff was supportive but sometimes to busy as they had alot to do but i did learn and now I cannot see me doing anything else apart from care, it's a very rewarding job and no day is the same.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • On starting with Anchor an Induction day was set up, i got to meet all other apprentices nationwide from there we had our own Apprentice Advisor who was brilliant, she visited and texted us each week just to make sure we was ok and answer any questions, colleague and managers were also very supportive and also had support from the Anchor advisor

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The home manager and advisor was always on hand to offer support, regular meeting with them both, telephone numbers and emails, if i needed help it was there. I had regualr away days with other apprentices, our own chat set up on Anchor Academy so we could all stay in touch and support each other

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My assessor visited once a month, had various assessors due to some leaving or off sick, they was good but I didn't really get to build up a really good relationship with them till near the end, they did support me with my maths and english which was good as i was very nervous

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Completing the qualification has helped me immensly, I was confident in my role and understand policies and procedures but by completing the qualification i now have it official on paper as well which makes me feel so proud of myself, going through the qualification made me look at things differently such as how to act, to follow procedures and look at my own development

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • yes I have attend many school and college career events, we all went to Blackpool for a day out, we are encouraged to come up with activities which we can deliver, we have a mentoring programme so we can support other apprentices joining the business, this is great for our own development also

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It has been a great start to my career and i have also gained a great qualification, Anchor has been so suportive and they have a great career progression through the company, i am very happy in what i am doing and hoping some day to become manager and even work for CQC


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Anchor Trust?
  • Listen to what they tell you, watch what they do, you might think you know it all but you truly dont, see the programme through, complete the work and be proud of yourself, dont be afraid to ask questions or ask why, they are here to help you. be yourself, good luck
