Apprentice Review

Training to be a cable jointer/electrician in the street lighting industry. Normal day involves planting new columns and jointing onto the the mains electricity supply. I am given a lot of opportunity to show case my skills that I have picked up both when on the tools or in the classroom.

Yes, learnt lots of new skills. These typically involve basic electrical knowledge, and lots of tips and tricks for the practical side. I find it helps a lot being able to gain experience when out on the tools and picking up little trips from the workers at my depot in Telford.

I highly enjoy my apprenticeship, from the first day I knew it was the correct apprenticeship for me bacuse I really enjoy every single day that I go to work. There is always something to do weather it is out on site or preparing materials for jobs when back at my depot.

Could do with some minor tweaks but as a whole is good. It helps having someone that leases with my supervisor so I know what courses I have to go on and all the dates I need. I also get this information emailed to me and get all the accommodation provided.

I receive all the support I need which allows me to be the best I can be. If I asked for any sort of PPE that I require then I will get it within a week which is always important as it protects you when out on site. Also have a good line manager who always asks how I’m getting on.

Again all the support I need. When I’m not based at my depot, I’m either doing in house training at the derby depot, which is fully kited out for gaining my qualifications or I’m up in Manchester working at UCT. Both training is very professional and is helpful.

The qualifications are very beneficial to my job role. The skills I learn in the classroom allow me to go out on site and put into practice the stuff I have learnt. Also the theory behind all the practical is also important so that I can understand what I’m doing out on site.

We have special events organised to recognise apprentices. This is usually a organised day where all the apprentices across eon collaborate and take part in group activity’s such as a panel that answer questions, team building activities and direct contact to manages so we can voice our opinions and get recognised.

Great company to work for, they support you and give all the correct training you need. From my time at eon I would be more than happy to recommend the apprenticeship because it’s a very well structured programme that allows you to become a better individual both at work and outside of work.

Make eon top of your applications because it’s a very good apprenticeship in the electrical industry. Also, during the interview process, make sure you ask lots of questions to make sure you fully understand what training you will be provided with. Try to make sure that your application is strong because eon want the best employees.
