1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I rotate positions around the business on a 6 month or 1 year basis, so far this has entailed myself working in the Online team, Plastic Reduction team and Wholesale.

Since the day-to-day role varies depending on my department, I will offer an insight into the work and responsibility to which I have been tasked with in team.

Online team - here I managed the recipe platform, farmers & corporate website as well as looking after our location data, including store finder. In addition to this I was also working to support the wider Online team such as traders.

Plastic Team - Throughout my time fighting to reduce our Carbon footprint, I liaised with suppliers and traders to implement new policy whilst trying to minimize financial impact on the business.

Wholesale - During my time in the Wholesale team, I have been responsible for helping to expand the Food To Go proposition, managing manual allocation to store and worked closely with marketing to ensure that POS landed in store.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During my time at Morrisons I have developed on a lot of skills such as:

- Punctuality, ensuring that you arrive on time to meetings, and how to mitigate risk of running late if the meeting is offsite.

-People skills have been developed through the use of networking around the business

- Computer skills have been vastly improved since I started working with Morrisons

-Business Skills & my ability to work independently have also been greatly improved

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I love my programme, I have found it extremely fun, interesting 7 challenging enough to develop myself as a person.

I could not recommend my course enough as an alternative to university, the study time also allows you to take a lot of time out of work, easing you into working life.

I can also not recommend my place of work - Morrisons enough as a great firm to work for.

4. How well organised/structured is your programme?

The Course is structured well with the support of Mentors, Buddies, multiple HR contacts, helpful line managers & support from the University.

If I have an issue at work, I can easily find someone to approach & ask for help, whether this be in my immediate team or outside.

I can also find help for my university work both inside work with my buddy ( somebody who has finished this scheme) or lecturer.

5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer as mentioned earlier, whether this be my mentor, HR team, Buddy, or senior leadership members.

For this reason, I feel that I have a varied support base and feel comfortable approaching any of them, which reflects very well on Morrisons given the seniority of some.

6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Bradford university is very competent in its teaching, we are taught in block weeks; this helps to reinforce knowledge and focus on the subject.

There are also great facilities available for our use such as the library, disabilities team if you have poor handwriting and finally free access to the gym.

7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The degree is applied to my work, for example, when asked to complete coursework - I am asked to tailor it to my work place, this therefore enhances my knowledge of the business & as such my competency in the role.

It has also helped me understand theories better which can be applied in the workplace.

8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are many activities to take part in such as development days, this is where they focus on building your professional skills in the office environment , these occur sporadically & will take 2 days of your time for each skill learned.

There is also the chance for joining clubs at the uni & using free gym membership.

9a. Would you recommend Morrisons to a friend?

9b. Why?

I would recommend it to a friend due to the great support, diverse workload & Support network available.

Since joining, Morrisons has been very accommodating to my needs and offer many great incentives such as the share save scheme whereby you can purchase shares at a discounted rate & also offers flexi time.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Morrisons?

Be honest & consider your values. The company is very value driven & as such having the authenticity about yourself will stand you in great stead.

Take the time to research the company to fully understand that it is not just a retailer but also a manufacturer, wholesaler & supporter of the community.
