  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Managing course delegates, confirmation emails and attendance. Organising learning workshops including venues, training venues and resources. Supporting the Learning and Capability Advisor with maintaining learning resources within CD. Supporting the Learning and Capability Advisor with promoting and recruiting for courses. Supporting the Learning and Capability Advisor with driving the communication and learning plan for 2018. Helping to deliver quarterly Learning and Capability induction workshops.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been able to develop a number of skills as well as learn new skills whilst working in my role. The skills that I have developed include; communication skills, leadership skills, time-management skills, organisational skills, public speaking. I have also been able to learn a number of new skills including; presenting skills, team-working skills, decision making skills and resilience.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • This programme has allowed me to get to know the business environment and meet new people. I have been able to build relationships and friendships with a number of people and enjoy the business environment including the perks it offers. The coursework I have completed has been relevant to my role and allowed me to learn throughout the apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • All of the modules that we complete as part of our coursework are relevant to the jobs we do and can be used in our roles. There are clear deadlines set for the completion of coursework and where we should be. We have regular reviews with our contact who works for our training provider.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My line manager has offered me a huge amount of support during my time on the apprenticeship. She has invested a lot of time into developing me and we always have regular reviews to discuss my performance and targets. There are also other internal training opportunities available to help me develop further if I needed it and support from a mentor.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have monthly review calls with our contact that works for our training provider. In these calls we discuss how we are doing in our roles, outstanding coursework and where we should be in terms of the programme. I have found that feedback on coursework has been very general and not specific to the work that has been handed in. Over the last 3 months, the communication from the training provider has been disappointing as our final assessments are coming up in the next couple of months and we have not received our assessment dates.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification and what we have learnt through our coursework modules has been relevant to the administration apprenticeship that we are studying. I have been able to use what I have learnt in the modules and apply this to my job. It has enabled me to learn new techniques and theories which help me day-to-day.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are always social events being organised by the apprentices, these usually happen once a month and can include going out for a meal, bowling or going for drinks. The internal/external training courses that are run allow you to meet new people and improve your networking skills. There are opportunities to help at open evenings and get involved in promoting our apprenticeships at events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Unilever is a great company to work for and really takes the time to invest in their employees to help them to further develop and learn new skills. There are great company benefits and the working environment makes coming to work enjoyable. I have been able to get to know new people and make friends with the other apprentices who have been supportive during my time here.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • The best advice is to be confident and yourself. It is important that you are able to show a genuine interest in working for Unilever and be able to explain why you want to work for this company. Interviewers will want to see that you are enthusiastic about a job/role.
