  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Reviewing and writing documents, writing memos, doing the billing. attending client meetings and writing emails to them. Following HMRC's guidelines and contacting them if their guidelines aren't clear. Looking at tax legislation and researching complex topics such as CFC rules and BEPS. Building relationships with colleagues and clients.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've improved my time management skills significantly - I never work on just one project and often have clashing deadlines, so my ability to prioritise tasks comes in handy. I've learnt how to be more organised when it comes to my thoughts and writing emails. My excel and word skills have definitely improved since starting. Last week I created a complex calories calculator using things I've learnt at work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy it surprisingly a lot. Especially working with the people here. All the teams I'm on work well together - that being said, we don't really work in set teams. Usually a consultant picks you to be the analyst on the team, and you join them for that project. I enjoy it more this at vs working in a small team because i get to work with a wide range of people

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • it's very well organised - we had a 2 week induction at the very beginning of the programme and then slowly moved into being in the offices. Exams spread out through the year to avoid being out of the office for long periods of time (except for the summer of 2nd year where a lot of the professional exams take place meaning we're out of the office for about 2 months). For certificate level exam we get 3 days of self study, which seems to be enough for now.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • a lot. We are all assigned a coach, a buddy and a people leader, meaning if we need any support we can definitely speak to somebody (coach and buddy being the first point of contact). Provide not only support with work related issues, but also pastoral coaching if needed (not as default, but the coaches are people you can talk to)

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The tutors seem to be very friendly and supportive. We get access to online lectures (Which i find more useful than being at college), so there's something for everyone. Tutors happily answer questions emailed to them, or asked during the course in classroom (where classroom learning provided). Overall I'd say it's very good.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • what I learn for my exams is definitely helping me at work as it's helping me understand the conversations people around me are having and allowing me to perform tasks more successfully without the need to research everything on google. The more exams i do, the better prepared for work i feel.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My department does a lot of socials - which are actually fun, not just drinks. There are also team socials for specific clients, and socials for specific bays. A lot of opportunities to get to know people in your department and make lasting connections. We also have access to a brand new gym, which is useful if you're working long hours.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Love the company, love the people. Socials well organised and very flexible hours. A lot of support is offered to junior staff (and senior, as they also have coaches and mentors). Ability to work from home and generally good attitude to remote/flexible working. Opportunities to do charity work during working hours.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Make sure you know what the company is like and what they value. Be as genuine as you can and show you're a caring person. Decide whether you're passionate about what you're applying for, but also be prepared to do a range of tasks, some of which might not be interesting.
