  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I take responsibility for running the internal admin on projects that I am a part. This can include take on process or billing. I also undertake tax technical research and general client research for my projects. I also take part in project meetings and project calls.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As part of my apprenticeship I will become ATT qualified which will help me progress my career regardless of the path I choose to complete. I have also received internal training from my employer on tax technical to familiarise myself with the sector of tax I will be based in, to skills training to develop my professional skills to help me develop in the workplace.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed the programme as there is a really strong and identifiable team and company culture that I am proud to be part of. This culture encourages me to develop in the professional environment. The programme has far exceeded my expectations around the chances to showcase myself in client situations.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have a mixed opinion on the structure of the programme. Internally I have been impressed with how senior members of the team have taken it upon themselves to ensure that the programme is working for me and I understand what I have to complete on it. The external body used has been less than desirable as we have received either mixed messages from them or no communications at all. This has led to confusion around what is expected of us and what the goals of the programme are.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a number of different support methods from our employer. From day 1 we are given a people leader and coach who invest their time to ensure you are the right path of development within the business. More widely within the team people have been more than accommodating in supporting us during times we have studies alongside our general workload.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Similar to the point above the one negative so far of this programme has been the training provider. Throughout the programme we have received a lack of support and understanding from the training provider. Often they don't provide us with enough information for us to complete elements of the training programme. They have generally not been helpful in helping us to countering problems we have come across.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification that we will receive will help us as it will give us a more rounded knowledge of tax. Without the qualification it would be simple to only learn about the narrow area of tax that we will be working with day to day but this qualification allows us to gain a wider understanding of tax that will be important as we develop our careers.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a wide range of extra-curricular activities to get involved with at Deloitte. We have an onsite gym which runs classes as well which is really good. There is a team culture throughout the firm where teams meet after work and enjoy social events. The firm also runs networking events to allow us to expand our networks.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • There is no better place to start your career and develop your career. There is a great emphasis placed on building our skills and knowledge from day 1 that is unrivalled elsewhere. There is a culture of inclusiveness within the firm. I have also been impressed with the willingness of more senior team members to involve junior team members in tax technical work from as early as possible and the trust given to those to junior members of the team.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • One tip I would give would be to conduct as much research as possible about Deloitte and the industry more widely before you apply but also throughout the interview process. Another piece of advice I give would be to undertake as much practice as possible in the parts of the interview process. It is unlikely you will succeed on the first try of applying for a job so as much practice that you can get on online interviews or assessment days will help you succeed once you get these opportunities.
