  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Corporate tax advisory and compliance work, supporting the team with technical research, client work, and engagement admin, such as billing and client emails. Much of the time is spent learning, both tax technical and for exams. A typical day will include learning, client work, internal catch ups, and admin time.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Developed lots of new skills relating to the technical tax content, and how to apply this technical knowledge to our work. Additionally, have developed skills surrounding tax compliance. Aside from technical skills, I have learnt new presentation skills, as well as developed communication and organisational skills, as well as leadership.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The apprenticeship exam element of my job often feels dissociated from my day-to-day office work, and as such I often feel as though I enjoy it less than being in the office. Having chunks of time when we are out for self study, or classroom learning, feels more like 'something that needs to be done' than 'a key and enjoyable element of my job'

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is well organised, and the structure means that we get a good ratio of office: study time. However, our college is in London, and our office is not, which means early starts and long train journeys. Although the ticket price is covered by work, this also becomes expensive, due to food costs

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer provides lots of support; anyone in the office will be very willing to help with your studies if you feel that you are struggling, and they are very understanding when it comes to moving an exam, or resitting an exam. I had to cancel an exam the week I was due to sit it, as I was unwell, and they couldn't have been more helpful

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support I receive from my training provider is excellent if we are in college. However, most of our certificate level exams are self study, and the support for this feels more lacking. Although there are people we can contact, it feels much more disjointed if you wanted to run over something.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It provides many financial skills and deepens our understanding of these. However, much of the knowledge gained from our qualifications at a certificate level feels disjointed from my day-to-day role, although this should decrease when we sit the professional level exams. It does however help hone study skills, which are useful for technical and research work

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of extra-curricular activities! Many of my colleagues play football- there is an activity focussed around almost every sport imaginable. Additionally, there are plenty of networks and communities that people can get involved with, such as a women's network, an LGBT network etc. Our team also hold regular socials

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Fantastic and inclusive working environment, with a genuinely lovely team of people who care about each other, both professionally and personally. People will invest in your career, and want you to succeed. It is an environment where you will be mentally challenged and can flourish and progress, surrounded by a great and supportive team

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • To think about both why you want to work for Deloitte, and what you can offer Deloitte, and to let these shine through in your application. Make sure you have a good understanding of the firm and the role you are applying for, and that you have a genuine interest in it
