  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my store I am a salaried manager, I started my apprenticeship having never worked in a McDonald’s before. I have been a manager for just short of a year now in me yeah and a half with the store and in my day to day basis I run shifts, set targets and do the store schedule.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed knowledge on motivating and training staff aswell as knowledge of spreadsheets, systems and chart interpretation, I have learnt how to manage the day to day proceedings of a store as well as running shifts, providing first aid and implementing rules regulations and discipline in the work place

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the amount of progression there is and seeing the efforts and actions plans benefit the store, I also enjoy helping others exceed in their apprenticeships as I’ve exceeded in mine, I enjoy the benefits like quaterly meetings and bonuses as well as salaried days out which count as your hours in the working week

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is quite well structured as you are well looked after and monitored however I do think the layout of the program is quite messy and not overly well organised as tutors and mentors can be quite unreliable and the contact between university and the store is minimal most of the time

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive one day a week to do all of my university work, this is the perfect amount of time so I don’t fall behind on my assignments and am given the freedom to ensure that I do everything on time, I have had great management training and I get regular feedback off my managers who care a lot about my progression

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive all the online work, which is clear and easy to understand however my uni mentors contact with me is brief as since I started uni in October I have only had one phone call in relation to how I am finding the course which I don’t think is enough

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe the work I do at university is very relevant to what I do in my job role the current topic I am studying is customer loyalty and this has helped me implement strategies to the lobby and service team to optimise customer retention to keep our sales consistently high and our customers happy

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes our franchise in Blackpool has an 11 a side football team where we play against the other 6 stores IN Blackpool this is a fun experience for us all to mix outside the stress of work with a 5 pound entry de and all proceeds going to RMHC which is an added benefit

  • 9a. Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • there’s is a lot of progression to go from crew to manager to head offices. flexible hours if you have other commitments. It’s a place where you can make friends and enjoy a active social life and develop social skills that you can take into imany future job of careeer you want


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
  • Not to underestimate it, the interviews are the same as any other interviews so a shirt and tie is necessary, the interview is formal and the job is very fast paced and not a job you can cut corners with, it’s a job where if you work hard you will be rewarded and recognised for your achievements.
