  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • We take inbound calls from customers who have queries about their on-going claims. From there, we raise any outbound calls to solicitors, third party insurers or even policy holders to action a claim so we can move it forward. We also deal with previous claims as some customers may want details or letters being sent out to their address just to confirm previous claims.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, speaking and listening. Also attention to detail skills. Verbal skills and written skills. These skills will help me for my future career, not just in my career but also everyday life. I believe I have yet loads more to learn but being here for only a few months has given me the confidence to grow.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have fallen in love with the role as you are resolving issues for customers after a bad experience (accident/incident). Overall l have ad a positive experience working for this company but have found an increasing amount of targets and points of focus to the point of being counter productive and a lack of personal development and challenges.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Everything is in place, direct line group have provided me with an easy way to learn whilst on the job. They will adjust to your learning styles and we have catch ups with our team leader so we are not left with concerns. Also you can have a talk anytime during the day in a meeting room where its more private/ confidential.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • More than enough. Employers seek loyalty and dedication from their employees but sometimes fail to return their half of the equation, leaving millennial workers feeling left behind and unsupported. Professional relationships are built on trust and commitment, and working for a boss/ team leader that supports you is vital to professional and company success which I believe at direct line I get.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • They are always there to contact which is very useful. We have their emails and can raise any questions when we have any! They also provide engagement programmes to support people to access work or learning, often in partnership with independent training providers. Finally they will help us achieve the best we can.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • We learn very important parts of the role and what it requires. This enables me to bring out my potential. Another reason why professional qualifications are truly important to your career is that they can enable you to negotiate a higher pay rate. ... Professional qualifications are a way of establishing yourself as a professional in your field who has extensive knowledge.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • They do have meetings which we can attend with other team leaders/ managers for a catch up every now and then. Team meetings are a learning and improvement opportunity – meetings are an inevitable part of business and organizations. Whether you like them or not. So team meetings are a good place to learn about the wider organization, how to work in a team, how to manage a team towards its objectives, and what improvements a team can achieve together.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe direct line CAN offer a career for anyone they employ. A great place to work and learn, I myself learned a lot from the many talented people working here. Good place to start and work for many years if you're looking to get into call centre work.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Direct Line?
  • Be willing to learn and to always use your manners. And remember to show your are enthusiastic about your role. Before you apply for a job in person, it's important to know what you need to bring when you apply, the information you'll need to complete a job application, how to prepare for an on-the spot-interview, and the best way to follow up after you have applied for jobs.
