Marine electrical engineer Review

I daily look through the power systems and configure the cables. I go to different parts of the system from start to finish, and wire it up so the system works. one system is the gun so I started from the outlet of the power right up until the gun itself.

I have developed my communication skills a lot as I need communicate with other tradesmen about jobs. I have also learned loads of new skills to do with electricity work, i.e stripping cables, crimping cables and terminating cables. I have learned several other skills that come in very handy within my job role.

I enjoy my job very much but feel as if there is so much more I can be learning and that I am capable of. I am upset about the final qualifications I get at the end of my apprenticeship which is the main down side. the jobs I do however are good.

the programme has many different placements which is good but aren't well organised. I am going to a placement which has no work in which I will learn where as 3 months later the work would have picked up and I would have learned more. the structure is good however.

I receive good support from some parts of the employer. my supervisors are very helpful and supportive of me which is great and I learn loads. however the background, with the people I don't see aren't as supportive as they could be. this is why I only rate a 5 out of 10

I receive loads of support from college when working towards my qualifications. the training provider has loads of extra study classes for myself and others to attend and also give us loads of 1 to 1 support. the lecturers are very clued up and know all the answers that I have questioned

I don't feel it helps as much as it maybe should because of the work that I do in work. something's I learn pop up in work and its interesting to know about it but it doesn't affect the way I work in work or affect how my work turns out.

there are several extra curricular activities for me to participate in. including giving blood etc. we also went to a CHAZ event which was doing some community service for a respite home which was really quite nice as I felt like we where doing something good for the community and for children in need.

I don't think I would recommend BAE Systems to a friend who wanted to be a spark as it is not a good company for that side of it. you don't get certain qualifications which hold you back in the outside world incase you needed a move elsewhere.

do not apply for electrical, aim higher and go for a job which involves technology like a designer or a technician. do loads of extra curricular activities in which you can add them to your CV upon applying. study for tests and try your hardest when doing the aptitude tests
