Finance and Commercial Graduate Review

My role is to support the finance team with any purchase orders and billing queries as well as look after the financials of one of the sites that we have. As well as this, I get involved with foreign exchange hedging as well as many other diverse things that are either over the short-term or long-term.

I have developed my interpersonal skills such as communication (both written and verbal), teamwork, self-confidence time management and other things. I have also developed my excel skills. A new skill that I have learnt is being able to use applications that I have only heard about and never used such as SAP.

I really enjoy the program as there are lots of other people from different backgrounds currently on the scheme as well as the team that you work with which is really interesting. The company culture is very good as they look after you and allow you to develop both personally and professionally.

The programme that I am on is very well organised/structured. Placements are well organised with well defined roles and various roles which means lots of exposure to different parts of the business. There are lots of training's that take place through out the year which is really helpful. There is also a mentoring system which is really helpful and can take you to where you want to be. The study scheme that is in place is very generous too.

There is so much support that I receive. Not only from the program manager but from other sources such as HR and the placement that I am with. Lots of encouragement to talk about things and resolve them, I have never felt the need to hide something. Everybody is willing to help and support you which is great.

I receive a lot of support when working towards my professional qualification CIMA. Lots of study days to take which includes a day off for each exam. Lots of different ways to study and help is on hand if I am struggling with something. It is also great to see other students going through the same thing so you never feel alone and you can talk to colleagues who have been through it which is great.

The content that I learn through CIMA is related to what I currently do in my role ties in very nicely. This means that i can put the theory that I have learnt into practice and my work is better as a result. It also makes me look at things from a different viewpoint and make me think about things differently and offer up opinions or processes/ways that can be different and help improve things.

There are lots of extra-curricular activities to get involved with at work. There are lots of sports teams that play sports on a weekly basis, the colleagues on the scheme go out from time to time, Christmas parties, team lunches/drinks. There are also other events which brings everyone together from different locations doing different jobs which means lots of networking.

The reason why I would recommend Siemens to a friend is because they are a fantastic company to work for. Their company culture is fantastic, they look after you, listen to you, allow you to develop yourself professionally and personally. It is a very large company with a diverse product set which means there is lots of exposure and knowledge building on many things. The amount of work that I do is very diverse and never repetitive. As well as this I feel like my work means something and is contributing to the success of Siemens

Tips and advice that I would give to other applying to Siemens would be that there really are endless opportunities that you can be given here. The Siemens application process is thorough but if you are driven and have the skills that we are looking for will do well. The assessment centre day is not as stressful as you will think so you can relax!
