Manufacturing Apprentice Review

I work in the manufacturing department of Siemens rail automation. on a day to day basis I do various jobs around the department that help me broaden my knowledge and understanding of the industry and my job as a whole, whether that be designing a piece of tooling using 3D CAD software or wiring and crimping relay test kits.

I have learned how to use 3D software as well as hands on things such as soldering and drilling printed circuit boards, I have also learned how to crimp wires and rewire electrical components. I have learned how to effectively carry out stock checks and how to manage various products and components when they are delivered.

I enjoy learning all the new things and techniques that come with the job as I know they will be beneficial in the future and will improve my job prospects for the future. I enjoy working with my colleagues and feel as if everyone is very polite and supportive. overall I am pretty happy.

I believe my program is structured very well as I know what I am doing and when I am doing it and the reason for doing it. I have been on various training courses and am scheduled to go on more, these courses fit well with my work and my college work so I have enough time and notice for everything.

my employers are very supportive and are more than happy to facilitate any needs I have regarding information about the course as well as tasks that I need assistance in completing. I always feel as I am in safe hands and can go to my employers if I need to

I fell I receive plenty of support from my training provider in regards to my qualifications as they provide all the necessary work books and equipment required for the qualifications as well as scheduled time slots where I can focus on the various qualifications that I need to focus on.

my qualification allows me to have a better understanding of the engineering industry as well as the mechanical and electrical principles that I need to use in the work place. for example if helps me understand what the various electrical components are sued for e.g. resistors, capacitors and transistors.

I am not aware of any sports teams associated with my work but I am aware of various social activities that enable you to meet and talk with people from other departments that you would not necessarily talk to usually. there are networking events that you can put yourself forward for.

it is a massive company with a vast amount of opportunities not just in my department. as Siemens are such a big and successful company you know that they are very professional and thorough in their aim to allow you to learn and understand the job role that you get into.

don't worry if you don't know a lot about engineering or whatever the sector is that you go into as they will teach you. Just make sure you are optimistic and willing to learn. if you want to join a big successful company that can offer you loads of opportunities in terms of education and jobs then go for Siemens.
