  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an analyst my work is incredibly varied. From research to developing financial models and benchmarking to drafting reports and client engagements, the role involves helping out wherever one is needed and that provides a very wide scope of engaging work. Analysts are a part of a client engagement team, and so work can take you beyond the office to client offices or workshops.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a wide variety of skills in my time here. The intensity and frequency of work has lead to an improvement in time management skills. Further to this, frequent use of excel for financial and economic analysis has improved my proficiency within the software. Time at the firm has also improved my understanding of corporate finance and billing, with experience in invoicing.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The degree to which one enjoys the work depends greatly on the work given, which can vary from team to team even within the same service-line of the business. Some areas of the firm had work which could get quite dull, yet overall the flexibility of managing your own work meant I was soon able to focus more on picking up work I enjoy. Outside of work, the firm is very considerate with frequent social events for employees with seemingly no expense spared!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very organised with a clear training and pathway route for all new joiners, whether they be graduates or school leavers. Feedback is regular, and everyone is assigned people to help look after them within the workplace and from a coaching perspective. There are systems in place to help you make the most of your time there.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from the firm. As a gap year employee, I spent the first few months going through university applications and admissions. The firm gave me support for my application, as well as dedicated extra holiday for interviews and interview support. The company is very understanding when it comes to personal time and individual support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As a gap year employee this is harder for me to judge, as I was only away on one training course for the ACA and, due to the brevity of my contract, it was not for a real exam. Nonetheless, the training provider was great and I enjoyed the time spent there.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As a gap year employee this does not apply to me as I will not be here long enough to acquire the qualification in question. The ACA is a qualification that takes multiple years, and my main placement is eight months. However, it appears to me that others around me find their qualification useful.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is an incredibly wide range of extra-curricular activities at work. There are frequent social events and company parties, all designed to help us get to know each other and reward us for hard work. There are sports teams for a wide range of sports, some that even organise tournaments in far flung locations.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • My time at Deloitte has been incredible, and I have learnt a great deal that I didn't even realise I would. The firm has a great commitment to work/life balance and employee welfare, and the work itself is challenging and incredibly varied. No two days have been the same and that keeps the workload challenging and interesting.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • The application is long, prepare for long waiting times and don't be afraid to politely chase up on an update if it has been too long. Interviews are fairly long, but be sure to prepare well to help minimise nerves and show your enthusiasm. The entire onboarding process, should you get an offer, is wonderful. The residential training academy for the first two weeks was a blast!
