  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Tax analyst in the Deloitte Private markets team. Involved in restructuring projects in which I work with a team of circa 4 people on a project where we give clients advice no how to efficiently structure their companies with regard to tax. This ranges from admin work like billing to client calls and drafting technical analysis and advice

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Become much more skilled in using excel with formula. Also developed formatting skills for powerpoint/Word. Developed communication skills as talking to clients and colleagues everyday. Developed networking skills as met c. 300 people in 5 months. Had to learn a lot of knowledge about tax in a short space of time

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Greatly - great experience to meet lots of new people, experience the world of work, and only for 7 months so not a full on commitment. Met like-minded people on the scheme with me. Lunches are entertaining. There is a small amount of less enjoyable admin work but this is expected and more than made up for by interesting work and events

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Pretty well organised. We are essentialy treated like graduates and so chucked into the job after a two week training course in warwick. Organisation tailored especially towards our gap year programme is good, with occasional lunches at Christmas, easter etc. Met all the other people doing my scheme as well

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Tons. Have a personal coach, a team leader and a people leader as well as a team of 30 who are always on hand to help out in anyway. Regular check ins are mandatory to check that you are coping ok and for you to bring up anything you would like to try

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • N/A as not working towards a qualification. Slightly applicable if you consider my application to uni. Deloitte offer two extra days off for university admissions tests and interviews which was very useful. Accepted to my first choice uni - rather obviously Deloitte do not offer direct support in my academic studies

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Again n/a.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes - many. We have regular - say twice a month - team events whether it be team drinks, team lunch or even a dinner. We have had a charity netball event and i'm aware that Deloitte offer many other sports teams and also a gym where there is a discounted membership fee.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have enjoyed my scheme and think it is a great thing to do, as well as Deloitte being a great place to work. It has allowed me to save money to go travelling after i finish my scheme, and the prospect of working more in my university holidays where i will be able to gain more experience

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • The most important skill is communication. Deloitte works as a professional services company, and no matter how skilled you are in your area of expertise, you would not succeed if you cannot communicate effectively. Ensure when applying to show Deloitte all of the extra curricular things you do, and any positions of leadership you have taken on
