  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • To implement new or improved fragrances into laundry products. I am in contact with fragrance houses on a daily basis in order to get samples sent on time for evaluation on time. Once the samples have arrived, I assess the fragrance and give feedback to external companies. Implement when ready.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been fragrance trained (trained in how to smell fragrance and evaluate to a high standard). Improved on my communication skills when talking to fragrance houses and organisation skills when ensuring assessments are booked in on time.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme. I have a lot of responsibility in my role which I am proud of because I feel like I am making a difference and contributing to the company.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Fairly organised. The only downside is the rotations each year. We get to pick our preferred area of work each year but it is unfortunately not guaranteed and so you could be placed in a team which is in an area of work you don't enjoy as much.

  • Fair amount of support. I have regular meetings with her and she is always there to help me and give me guidance when needed.

  • Not a lot of support given for work towards the Chemistry degree

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Very well. I can implement my learning into why a fragrance is better performing in a certain formulation or on a certain cloth

  • There are plenty to choose from but I don't participate in any

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a very friendly environment to work in with a lots of opportunities to build you as a person


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unilever?
  • Be yourself. You must have an interest in science as it is very science based environment and a certain degree of knowledge is needed in order for you to understand the work you are doing.
