  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently at college studying the basics of engineering but will move into the depots at the end of the year to begin training within the engineering field. I will in future be working within an engineering depot performing numerous mechanical maintenance tasks. This can vary from striping apart a train to sorting electrical problems.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learnt many new skills that will benefit me further in my career. The types of skills are transferable but also key skills needed for the career path I am on. I feel like I am also excelling at developing these skills, this could possibly be because of the training provider and college.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I highly enjoy the program and look forward to getting hands on in the future and throughout my career. There are small areas that I would improve on and these have been voiced with the support team but in short I would say that it is a highly enjoyable course for someone like me.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Fairly well organised, could be better with some of the assignment work that needs to come from ntar but the communication could be better to improve on this. I believe the company is still new so these problems can be expected but they also understand this through the feedback that we give in progress reviews.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Regular progress reviews to check up and see how well we are getting on. We are also invited to the head office on a regular basis to not only speak with the training provider but also gain more knowledge which in the long run will benefit us in achieving the qualification.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Little support as of yet as we are work with the college to help towards gaining our qualifications but should hopefully soon see more of a presence. I would say that emails should be answered not only by us as the students but also the college who are trying to communicate problems within the course.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It will in the long run help with the role I am working towards but as of yet haven’t had to use these skills in my chosen field. I believe that my skills and the qualifications I am working towards will however in the future help me rather extensively.

    7/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As of yet I am unsure of extra activities that are provided by the training supplier. Hopefully in the near future I will be able to find out more in regards to activities I can participate in to improve my communication within different groups of people and not only my peers.

    4/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend NTAR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely recommend this career path and also the training provider to a friend, peer or future college due to the benefits that it will most likely provide in the future throughout my career. This will give me and anyone else that qualifications to move into a wide range of engineering sectors

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NTAR?
  • I would firstly give the advice of trying to communicate not only with the college but linking all your employer and Ntar together so there can be free flowing communication networks. I would also give the advice of listening and taking notes when possible to aid towards future study within the course.
