  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • We maintain locomotives and wagons in the freight industry. We swap engine parts, wheels, compressors and service freight trains to ensure they run safely around the UK. We also go to collage in order to do job reports to work towards our level 3 qualification in rail engineering on locomotives.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed existing skills because I did a level 2 rail qualification in track maintenance before I started this apprentiship. This helps me with the qualification to date as it involves safety within the rail, how stake holders work in the railway and how project are developed. I also worked with the rail industry before the apprentiship started so this has helped me.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme I have took. I enjoy the paper work but the practical more. I like doing the rail specific engineering assignments because it is something I am interested in. I can see my self working in the rail industry for the whole of my career because of the apprentiship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • So far NTAR have been good for the programme. The collage started off distant from our group but as soon as we spoke up NTAR were the ones to sort this out and now collage has been a a great experience for me so far and hope it carries on this way.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a lot of support from our employer and apprentiship scheme company. We receive emails about new opportunities and also they get straight back to us if something is wrong. I ebelive we get more than enough support from our employers, collage and apprenteship scheme company. Our work always have reviews when we go into the depot.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive good support from our twining provider when working towards our qualifications as they will always help if we have a question. If they cannot help us with a specific rail task they will find out for us and get back to us to ensure we get the answer right.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Working towards a qualifications as high as the one I’m doing helps me perform well st my task at work because I know I will get a good solid career or if it. I set my self to work hard, get the work done so I can go into work for the company most of my life. I hope to do more qualifications after I finish the level 3.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are 5 a side football events at work we can attend. Siemens and NTAR run week events where we work as a team together with the people who are in the apprentiship scheme. There are also cricket events that you can take part in with the company I work for.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Siemens to any friend of mine because they runs amazing aprensithop schemes that can change lives. The pension scheme is life changing and the money I will be on when I qualify will help me in parts of life. I would recommend to anyone to work for Siemens and take an apprentiship scheme on.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • I would give them advise to get all the work done when they can, offer to do more and take the opportunities Siemens gove to people in the industry. I would advise them to work hard, and ask to do more course to become more trained and competent in the rail industry
