  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am working in a project controls role which involves overseeing the works of a business such as controlling budgets, tracking the hours being booked in the company, and preparing packs for reviews involving certain areas in the business. This role also involves some general work such as the organisation of files etc.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have massively improved my excel and IT skills since beginning the pm apprenticeship. I had never really touched excel before starting and now have a variety of skills I can use in the programme. I have improved my ability to manage tasks and pick out key areas and objectives.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme has been very enjoyable as I have been given the opportunity to tackle a wide range of tasks. This keeps the process exciting as you never know what you are going to be expected to do and there is always new skills for you to develop as you progress.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • This is the first time a project management apprenticeship has been ran in the business however it has been very well structured and set objectives put in place in order for us to get the most out of our placements. there is a clear plan set out for us to perform against over the next 3 years.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • BAE offer a huge range of support over all areas you could need it. Any issues or queries you have people will direct you to the right place to find help or information. They also have large areas dedicated to mental health support and financial support etc in order to ensure everyone in the business is well.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our training provider offer support however we only have one contact and communications are set up once every 6 weeks or so just to keep up too date with progress and evidence we have uploaded to our portfolios. Recently more support has been provided which is a positive for those involved.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Recent Modules in our training course have been very relatable to ares I am tackling in my work place. It gives me a further understanding of terms used etc in my work and allows me to pick up skills more quickly as I have been given previous exposure to the areas.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My workplace offers many opportunities to participate in stem events to promote apprenticeship programmes to people still in school and present the skills we have developed in order to show people there are more opportunities out there than going to university. This is a very good opportunity as an extra-curricular event.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend BAE Systems as they fully support all members of the business and always seek to develop the skills of their workers. They provide an excellent, safe working environment. Every day stretches your ability and provides a new challenge to be overcome. There is also many opportunities to broaden your role within the company.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • A good piece of advice would be that if you put the effort in to work hard you will be rewarded and people notice those who are making a difference. Always prepare for challenges and tasks and you will find it much easier to perform in your role at BAE.
