  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job role at work includes both theory and practical work for the apprenticeship I am on. The theory work involves maths, science and health and safety subjects. The practical work for this apprenticeship includes mechanical and electrical activities such as, working on motors, soldering and designing and working on electrical circuits.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting my apprenticeship I have learnt many new skills. Examples of these skills are filing, soldering and wiring circuits. I have also learnt how to use many different tools and equipment such as hand drills, bench drills, hacksaw, bandsaw etc. I have also improved my knowledge within subjects such as maths since starting this apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • So far since starting this apprenticeship I have enjoyed my time here. This is because I have learnt many new skills and developed existing skills. I have also enjoyed the work I have been doing as I have not done most of it before and each topic is different to the last.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • This programme is well organised and structured. This is because we start each morning knowing what it is we have to do that day, and if we are not aware there is a sheet in the workshop telling us where we need to be. We are also told about any change of events in a weekly talk.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from the employer. This is because there are a lot of things set up to help the employees such as occupational health, a place to go if you are struggling about mental health, and a place to go if you are struggling with drug or alcohol problems etc.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from the training provider when working towards my qualifications. This is because I am taught everything I need to know in order to pass any exams or assessments. I am also shown different skills that I will need to know when going out on work placement.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as though my qualification is important to helping me perform better in my job role. This is because it ensures I know everything that I will have to do as there are various skills I am assessed on to get the qualification and I am able to complete the work to a good standard.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There have been a couple of extra curricular activities since I have started this apprenticeship. One of these is a trip to outward bounds the apprentices went on for a week, where there was many outdoor and teamwork activities to do as well as camping. There has also been a navy challenge which apprentices can sign up to if they wish.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend BAE systems because so far I have enjoyed my apprenticeship at BAE systems. I have learnt many new skills and been able to develop existing skills. There is a wide variety of work I have done so far which makes working here more interesting as each topic is different to the other.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Tips or advice I would give to others applying for an apprenticeship at BAE systems is to make sure you always follow the health and safety procedures as they are very important in this working environment. You will not be expected to know anything when first starting the apprenticeship but will learn everything you need to know.
