  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in corporation tax and provide both advisory and compliance services to a number of international clients. I work on various teams with a number of different managers solving clients complex problems or helping clients with compliance responsibilities. I perform both admin aspects of work such as billing but I also complete technical pieces such as tax accounting and permanent establishment memorandums. It is highly engaging and interesting.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a huge amount of new skills and have developed existing skills. I have client contact and regularly develop my communication and people skills. We have a number of training days and workshops where I am required to present and this has helped my public speaking. I have been able to develop internal and external relationships.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my job, the work I do and the people I work with. I feel the programme however could be better. I'm not sure if it's on Deloitte's part or BPP University's but the organisation isn't there and there is no key contact. There is a lack of clarity around timings and exams and the programme is not well organised.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Not very, no one seems to know when the next exam is, where the study is for the exam, when the materials are coming and to which office. We have not been provided with an exam timetable and no one seems to have the answers. Exams have been moved multiple times, I have had to chase for a number of things and had no answers for sometimes up to 10 weeks.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I do receive support when I speak up to the right people. It does however seem that people within Deloitte don't necessarily have the answers though. I also do not think the scheme is widely known either and therefore my employees don't understand it and therefore cannot give support necessarily.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • BPP University send emails checking in, however they are not personal and I do not have a designated point of contact. I feel the tutors in college (mostly) are very supportive and genuinely care and show an interest however the 'back office' staff take a long time to come back to us with answers, they often get things wrong, and they don't provide useful support they seem to provide more of a 'tick box' exercise type of support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification is necessary to continue in the field in which I work. Being in tax, most of the exams I have completed to date have been audit, and therefore do not necessarily contribute to my day to day role. However, I feel that my understanding of the sector is constantly growing and I am constantly learning. The tax exams I have completed however have been useful, there just haven't been many of them.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I play netball at work which is great fun and I really look forward to it! we have organised events with work such as yearly socials, a summer ball, and end of month drinks which are more informal and its nice to catch up with different people in different teams. We are not heavily encouraged to attend professional networking events and this would very much have to be a personal goal.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think Deloitte is a great place to work, learn, make friends and develop. It is challenging at times but you are constantly learning and developing. Although I would recommend Deloitte, I would not necessarily recommend the apprenticeship programme here as my experience on the apprenticeship hasn't been good.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • Be yourself. If you are proud of what you have achieved and you have achievements then sell yourself. It is highly competitive so do your research on Deloitte and the market. Enjoy the process you will meet great people whom you can learn from, other interviewing, senior staff and partners.
