  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • A group of us were given presentations and experience in working in the professional field so we were given tasks to do, including: auditing, tax services, financial advisory, consulting, working in teams to solve problems etc. The work experience was unpaid and was only a week long, so there wasn't much more to it.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • Throughout the work experience, I managed to pick up various skills that we were taught from the presentations and classes in the week. As I mentioned above, we learnt about things like auditing, tax services, financial advisory, consulting and working in teams to solve problems. These were the key focuses in the placement.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • Overall, it was quite enjoyable. However, I feel that it wasn't exactly what I expected it to be. When I heard that there was work experience available at Deloitte, I assumed we would be shadowing someone or working with the employees (assisting them in tasks), rather than sitting in a classroom through a couple of presentations.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • The work experience was very organised - on the first day, we were given booklets and forms that we had to give in at some point in the week. The booklets consisted of all the content that we were going to cover so it was really nice to see what we were going to be doing throughout the week.

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • I feel as though I didn't learn as much as I could've regarding the actual company itself. Although they highlighted the main values of working at Deloitte, we didn't really get to see people in action ourselves and even though we were working in the same building, it didn't really feel like it as we were excluded from anywhere but the conference room we were in.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • To be honest, I don't think it really had much of an effect on what I want to be doing in the future. I currently am planning to go on to study Computer Science at university and this was my plan before the work experience took place as well.

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • We weren't paid for the work experience as it was an unpaid placement. The placement itself was only a week long - however, we were given forms to fill in at the end of the week regarding our travelling expenses, and a few weeks after filling them in, we were reimbursed.

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • There were a couple of opportunities here and there where we were able to talk to some of the employees at Deloitte, but I still feel as though we didn't learn as much as we could have from them. During lunchtimes, for example, we had conversations with the employees and we only learnt a little about what it was like working for the company.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Note: I'm assuming the previous question (9a) is referring to Secondary School as the work experience placement. I would recommend it to a friend if they were interested in working for Deloitte as it is quite a good opportunity to learn more about the company if you have unanswered questions.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • When answering the questions required to sign up for the work experience placement, make sure you speak the truth and talk about your experiences and how they might lead you to work for Deloitte. As long as you meet their other requirements, you should be fine and get on the placement.
