  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I help support the sourcing/procurement roles within GE. This can include of me ordering and prepping engines in order for the material to come in on time and to be available to use when engine is accumulating. I have the responsibilities of ensuring inventory is kept to a minimum, reducing why parts go on hold daily and ensuring if material doesn't come in, finding out why.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills since being in my apprenticeship. I have developed my team skills and this is a skill that is vital in a role such as mine because of the amount of people that you have to deal with on a daily basis such as engineers and customers. I have also developed my team leader skills through a qualification that was offered to me called Chwarae Teg which was a level 2 award in leadership and team skills. my confidence has grown each day with the more responsibilities I am granted.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My organization is very structured. When joining the course we were inducted thoroughly. we were talked each stage of the NVQ study in detail and told what we would be needing to do to complete the qualification. We were also informed of our responsibilities and duties. The Hierarchy here within GE is clearly visible and there is so many opportunities for development and progression.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support within GE is very good. If there is anything difficult or an employee cannot do then there is always so many people you can ask for help on. we attend a lunch and learn every Wednesday for us to learn more about our jobs and become familiar and confidant with tasks. The accessibility of support is always easy and there is always a positive attitude.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support we receive from our training provider is very high. Each Wednesday morning we get talked through what we will be doing on the next part of the assignments. The provider will mark our work and let us know of any improvements or suggest help where it is needed. The provider is very helpful and always has a very positive attitude towards us.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification helps me preform better in my role because it has increased my knowledge to business systems and administration and increased my confidence to work. However the qualification doesn't help with the work that I complete because it is not specific, it is very general. However it has increased my team building skills and am able to be more confidant.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are so many activities that you can get involved in at work. They can range from singing choir to the golf team to the rugby team. GE is a very social business and there is always so many things to join in on in your free time. I am currently not part of any extra curricular activity yet but feel I will join one when I become more comfortable within the business and have some free time.

  • 9a. Would you recommend GE Aerospace to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it is a very good business to work for. There is so many roles and responsibilities that could fit every person. There is roles in purchasing, engineering, health and safety and finance. The money is also very good for an apprentice wage. I also would recommend because of how many qualifications can be redeemed through the business.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace?
  • The tips I would give to another person apply for GE would be to come and get a weeks work experience first before applying for a role here. This would give an insight into the business and to see if the role you would want is what you expect as decisions like this can be very daunting when leaving school. I would also say to be confidant, be yourself and speak to people.
