  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • We have to initially come in to a skills school, and develop our basic engineering skills. In these sections we have to complete a combination of both practical and theory work. This is to gain our level 2 qualifications before we go out in to the business in our area

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills such as soldering and electronic circuit designing. How to use hand tools and machinery to shape metal objects. and then we have developed skills in mechanical maintenance all whilst working on our vocational skills. My maths has defiantly improved as well as my written English

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying this programme as I feel that not only am I constantly learning on a daily basis but I also have great direction sense, knowing where I want to be and where the company want me to be. This allows me to look ahead to a right future

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is structured well and I can tell that it has been done many times beforehand. You feel that they treat you well and really want you to do well. We all know what we are doing and this enables us to trust their structure and just get our heads down and complete the work

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive help from them every day whether it is help with the actual work or even to help with personal things outside of the company. This helps us to feel comfortable at work getting the best out of me. They really helped us by organising the placements and want to know what we want to do in the future

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have been given a timetable with all the qualifications that we will be achieving and when we will be doing them. This helps us to plan for them and make sure that we are ready. They also give us deadlines to follow to make sure that we never get behind on our work

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It defiantly helps us with the many areas that we can get filtered in to. So that when we come across these types of jobs that require these skills that we are learning we are not baffled and have some previous experience of them, giving us a head start which is good

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are opportunities to help them to promote apprenticeships and this allows you to pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm on to the next possible recruits. They also arrange coffee morning for networking as well as events to promote the importance of aiding people with mental health issues easing their load

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • This is an important company that keeps the city of London moving and helps the economy to continue to grow. The rewards of a great career with a lot of skill building is very attractive as well as great pay which is another factor. Work hard and you will be rewarded


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for London?
  • Keep patient and be well prepared. Within the interview and through out the stages they will always refer back to the company values and these will be sent to you during the first stage of your application. make sure your timekeeping is good and that you work hard to learn about the company
