  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • - Communicate updates and service disruptions to users, selecting the most appropriate communication tool, e.g. email, intranet, and providing an estimated resolution time if possible - Escalate major incidents to the appropriate team, and contribute to major incident reviews - Test new IT systems proposed for use within the organisation, particularly systems relating to incident management and account administration

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • - Data management: learned to effectively record, analyse and communicate data at the appropriate level using the organisation’s standard tools and processes and to all stakeholders within the responsibility of the position - Problem solving: learned to apply structured techniques to common and non-routine problems, test methodologies and troubleshooting and analyse problems by selecting the digital appropriate tools and techniques in line with organisation guidance and to obtain the relevant logistical support as required

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme provides me with options to work within a large variety of teams that use different technologies, some of which I enjoy more than others. One of the main reasons I enjoy my programme is due to the level of help and support I am given from team leaders, supervisors and colleagues.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured. Apprentices are presented with a document which outlines the core placements offered as part of our scheme. Additionally, full training course dates are provided early, with course material given a few weeks before training. Placement schedules are also put into place and can be changed to suit the apprentice.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A lot of support is given by the employer. Regular meetings are set up to go through the apprentice's progress and discuss anything else regarding the apprentice. The employer offers a lot of training courses, technical and non-technical which helps the apprentice in their confidence to do their job well.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A lot of support is given by the employer. Regular meetings are set up by the mentor assigned to the apprentice by the training provider to go through the apprentice's progress and discuss anything else regarding the apprentice. The training provider is responsible for delivering the technical teaching which helps the apprentice in their confidence to do their job well.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Qualifications provide the technical abilities to do the job and therefore help a lot. The technical learning helps the apprentice better understand their role, and understand the technical competencies. It also helps apprentices to be productive in their use of technology required for their role, and therefore helps them contribute in achieving the team's object.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many career events that take place which help build your profile within the company and get recognised. You can also practice your networking skill, develop public speaking skills and represent the company to an external audience. But you also help the company to make a difference. Most of the time, events are organised to make sure everyone has the access to information so they can make a right career decision for themselves.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Transport for London to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Great working environment, a very good organisation in terms of diversity, yoiur work impacts, in someway, the running of London transport which is something great to achieve. IT also offers a number of employee rewards including lifestyle discounts for retail and travel purchases and tax-efficient schemes for childcare and cycle-to-work purchases.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for London?
  • Demonstrate your passion for the scheme you are applying to through your experiences. Show confidence in yourself in your CV, cover letter and at interview stage. Include from your experiences or qualifications anything you feel contribute to presenting yourself as a suitable candidate for the role. Give it your best shot.
