  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • When I enter in to the office in the morning, I know that I have to deal with all the parcels coming into site, whether these are school orders, student parcels or staff parcels. I would have to follow the appropriate measure to make sure that they are sorted out in the correct procedure. I also sign in/out passes for any contractors coming on to site and provide them with an induction if they have not been on site before. I also have to sign in/out keys. Another side is dealing with any and all Lost Property that the students/staff report as missing. Other jobs follow on like purchasing, call point testing (once a week), filing, shredding, answering phones, dealing with emails. Every day there seems to be a new problem that needs to be sorted out.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme of work that is provided for me both at work and at college. The ability to chose several of the units either due to it fits with what I am doing or with what I enjoy is brilliant but having to make sure that it is do able with my job. The people at work always are providing me with more work that could link in somewhere, it is just a matter of making sure that I don't over do it on the evidence

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very organised with college visits being every 3/4 weeks, where they make sure that you are getting the compulsory units completed. They provided deadlines for when the assignments had to be completed by. The structure now that I have finished the compulsory units is a little more relaxed which is helpful regarding the work structure and everything that is happening at work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My line manager/colleagues are always providing support with either work that is being done in the office or if I am stuck on any college work. If I am stuck on filing in a criteria they are always helpful by providing suggestions on how different parts of the work can link in.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The college is helpful by providing help sheets when stuck on questions. They provide lectures and PowerPoints where possible to help explain some questions. They also mark all the work within a time frame of it being posted on the website as well provide feedback where appropriate and inform us if a resubmission is required.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me understand a organisation/business better and the running of a school. How the different areas of the school all help with the running but most importantly how if something is not done how that can effect the whole business. My qualification helps me how communication is important for a business to run smoothly.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Duke of York’s Royal Military School to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • You are able to gain more knowledge of a school as well as have some knowledge of what the students are going through. You have helpful resources at your finger tips and other people in the area that you work in that would be able to provide you with insights on how an organisation is run.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Duke of York’s Royal Military School?
  • When you go to the interview make sure that you are confident in your own abilities and not to be afraid to take some time thinking for the answers. When filling in the applications forms make sure that you provide detail amount of information, but that all your information is correct. Don't act too big headed, be humble and remember that every little detail can either make or break this chance of getting the job.
