  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am in charge of providing students and staff with learning resources and ensuring they're kept in a cycle so that everyone has access to them. I also assist in the training of trainers, who then train police officers, I also develop learning resource packages for different qualifications and departments.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt various new skills within my apprenticeship, for example I have learnt how to train and confidently get up in front of a class and deliver a session. I have also developed my skills in communicating, and providing feedback. Within this role I have also learnt troubleshooting skills for technology and how to use technology to enhance my role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme some what, as it has provided me with ample opportunities to go out with different departments within the police force. It has also provided me with an opportunity to learn new skills and develop them by being given the chance to put them into practice. Sometimes I feel as thought I'm not being used to my full potential however.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well organised, although it took 5 months for me to have my induction, I am able to organise my time so that I can choose when to study, I also know that my team is there to support me should I need it. I had an effective amount of training that helped me settle into and feel comfortable within my role.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive more than enough support through my line manager and team as well. They're encouraging me to exceed my own expectations and are always keen to provide constructive criticism on how my performance can be improved. They're also more than willing to assist me with the knowledge part of my criteria.

  • I receive more than enough support through my line manager and team as well. They're encouraging me to exceed my own expectations and are always keen to provide constructive criticism on how my performance can be improved. They're also more than willing to assist me with the knowledge part of my criteria. (Organisation I work for is training provider).

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification is providing me with all the knowledge that I can apply when I train, so I know how to overcome barriers to learning, I know how to overcome difficult learners, I know how to effectively use group learning, among other things that I've had to the opportunity to learn through my qualification.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I've had the opportunity to go to a CIPD event for Learning and Development professionals, and I've had the opportunity to be a part of the World Skills event, where we tried attracting more people to consider apprenticeships within TVP, there are lots of sports clubs at our work and activities to get involved in. I'm also part of the Young Apprentice Ambassador Network, to try and spread the positive message and impact of apprenticeships.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • As they are focused on developing you as a person and always want someone to achieve and exceed their potential. They provide so many opportunities to develop yourself, and constantly provide support along your journey throughout your whole career. You also have so many different career opportunities that are available to you.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Thames Valley Police?
  • Research TVP before applying, ensure that it is the place and role for you. A lot of people have negative connotations when it comes to the place, however, I can say first hand this is not true, it is like one big family, so if you're considering joining then go for it, there's so many opportunities for you!
