  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • During my time with Mace Group I have experienced two roles. I commenced my career as a construction manager, mainly assisting senior managers and covering insufficient roles. I then progressed and began to develop my skills and get involved with managing my own areas inc liaison with clients, subcontractors and other colleagues. Following this i have now developed my understanding into becoming a commercial manager, this consists of valuations, client liaison, and assisting in trackers to help the team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme, and the job as i was given the opportunity to switch job roles and continue my development. I have currently enjoyed working for Mace that i would recommend this scheme to anyone who asks. There is a correct level of work / study balance / support, 9/10 senior employees are always happy to help.

  • The program with Mace group has a high level of organisation, we have regular training courses for a variety of different subjects. • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • At Mace Group senior employees are available to offer help and advice, even if they are busy the teams are happy to agree a mutual time to discuss the query. We have mentors to meet on a regular basis which offer a informal outlet to the company or where you can ask the "stupid questions" that you wouldn't ask day to day colleagues.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At Mace Group the qualifications occur as London South Bank University, where we attend on a day release basis. Mace allow the whole day for University attendance which allows the time when we are not in lectures to complete coursework / revision. If we need additional help again work colleagues are more than happy to assist.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • At Mace Group our training / educational provider is London South Bank University. The course was HNC in Construction which i have now developed into a Quantity Surveying BSc, this is related to work as this covers a broad range of construction techniques. Even if the subject isnt related it increases knowledge and understanding of the construction industry.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • During my time at Mace Group there as been some extra-curricular activities, but not loads of activities to participate in. During my first project we hosted a weekly 5-aside match which improved working relationships. With regards to networking the company hosts a communications event once a year, other than the stated above these are few and far between.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend mace group to a friend because of the opportunities they offer within the business. As stated earlier there is the flexibility to change roles to continue your development and find a avenue you enjoy. Also the training is to a high standard at London South Bank University, and the in house training offers the chance to socialism with directors ect.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace?
  • I would advice potential Mace Group applicants to apply if they want to develop work and personal skills. This isn't just a job as the training offered will improve you, and you will receive the qualification as evidence for your hard work. All senior employees will make time to assist in any issues you may have.
