  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role includes talking to the retailers on the phone and helping them to quote customers on our system. We check documents the customer has signed to see whether they match to our system. If they do we activate the deal and the customer gets the car, if not we decline.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed more confidence and customer service skills. I am now able to navigate a computer with ease, whereas before my IT skill were very poor. I know how to send formal emails and communicate with other members of staff successfully. This also gave me an opportunity to experience an working environment.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my job. As well as working in the office, they give me time to do my apprenticeship work which is really useful for me to keep on top of things. It's mostly coursework which I prefer to exams. I also enjoy how I move departments every 4 months.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I know exactly what departments I will be visiting for the first year and when my training is for each. There has been no mention of what the second year entails and which department I'm going to, but I'm not very worried about that yet as I'm only 4 months in.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The team leaders are very helpful with my apprenticeship and my probation. Every week we have coaching, to see which areas in the role we are doing well and what we can improve in. We have scorecards emailed every day to see whether we have achieved our targets, which is very helpful as you always know your progress.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have a meeting with my trainer from FWD every month to catch up on work and to help me with what evidence I need to group together for the scheme. I am also able to contact her on email whenever I need help with work or revision, she's quick to reply.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have a lot of background knowledge on car finance thanks to what I need to learn for my exam. My units discuss all car finance products and other finance topics. This helps when talking to retailers as I have a wider knowledge of the business so can discuss in more detail.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We can attend sessions to help us build management qualities and confidence. They hold events and sessions just for apprentices and undergrads on topics such as personal development plans and office skills that will benefit your role here and your future career if it's in finance or another office job.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Volkswagen Financial Services to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I've had a very pleasant time working here and I am very grateful to have had this opportunity. It is a brilliant company to work for who care about their employees and their development. Everyone is very welcoming and happy to help if you are unsure about any thing.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Volkswagen Financial Services?
  • Be confident in your interview and enthusiastic. Don't be overwhelmed when you see a massive building as everyone inside is very nice and will look after you. When applying don't be afraid to big yourself up and let them know of any extra circular thing you may have done even if it's not finance related.
