A fantastic Apprenticeship where I get to experience all work across the Airport. I am sent to college for the first full year, and day release there after, to gain the necessary qualifications to become a fully qualified technician. I am learning the many skills required to maintain airport assets.
Over the Apprenticeship, I have completed various training courses required by the company in order to fully complete the Apprenticeship and qualify as a technician. These are: F-Gas - Refrigerant for ACU’s Fire training BTEC Level 2 BTEC level 3 HNC - Electrical and Electronic EAL These have given me key skills I will need to use in my career at Heathrow Airport.
The programme I am on is very rewarding and very diverse. The team of engineers I have worked with are all very highly skilled and knowledgeable. The assets and work to be done at the airport is always different and very rewarding, especially when you complete a difficult task and see the affect of your work on the airport
The Apprenticeship is very well organised. The amount of work and qualifications that Heathrow provide are all well scheduled across the 4 year programme. This means that we are always learning and working towards becoming a better engineer. I would not change any of courses that Heathrow offer and I never feel that work is becoming too much to handle
My employer is very willing to help me with any issues I encounter. If work is becoming too much or too difficult, they are very understanding and will help me get back on track. The team of people put around the Apprentices are all very happy to help and also encourage us to push ourselves and do everything to the best of our abilities
My employer provides as much support as I need in order to complete the Apprenticeship. If work is becoming too much or too difficult, they are very understanding and will help me get back on track. The team of people put around the Apprentices are all very happy to help and also encourage us to push ourselves and do everything to the best of our abilities
All courses and qualifications gained at college and on site at the airport are all extremely relevant to our jobs at Heathrow. The courses cover all basic engineering knowledge and then progress to higher level learning to give us the understanding and skills to complete any jobs that may need doing at the airport.
The company provide a few additional activities to participate in. These range from online activities like fantasy football, to physical activities that range from assisting in secondary school challenges and mojo building activities (S.A.S training was a personal favourite of mine). All these activities are free to participate in and all good fun.
Yes
The Apprenticeship is brilliant and provides a fantastic opportunity to learn all the skills required to become an engineer for one of the biggest and busiest airports in the world. They provide all training at no cost to the Apprentice and give you the experience of working on site at the airports many different sections
As a current apprentice, I would advise that the more effort you put in, the more reward you get from the company. All work you do is vital to the airport and the company are very aware that your efforts make the airport a better place for everyone, employee and customer.
