  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is within Schroders' Wealth Management Division, Cazenove Capital, and I am part of the Compliance Team. I have a variety of daily, monthly and quarterly tasks which involve monitoring different aspects of the business; helping with staff trading and I am also involved in helping the Financial Crime team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've developed my organisational and teamwork skills while being in this role as I've definitely had a lot more independence day-to-day than in a school environment so learning effective time management has been really important. I've also got a lot better at using Excel while being here!

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am loving the programme so far. It is amazing to be working in the City straight from school and especially for a company like Schroders; where you get to learn about the finance industry first-hand and if it is something you would be interested in further down the line. Schroders and i2020 put on so many training days and really encourage you to learn more about the industry which is great and there are also so many other trainees who are on the same programme so there is a really great social side too.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is a very well structured programme- lots of training opportunities and we also have a group project. It was also really nice to have a whole introductory week with the other Trainees/ Apprentices prior to joining our different teams so we weren't thrown in at the deep end!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get lots of support at Schroders. I have regular 1:1 sessions with my manager and can happily voice any issues I have. I've also had a meeting with the recruitment team since joining to help me figure out what is the best next step after this year has finished, which has been really helpful.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There are lots of resources to use when it comes to the qualification and it seems like there's lots of support with it. There are lots of online reading materials and practise questions so I feel like we will all be very prepared by the time of the exam.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I hope after I have taken the qualification I will get a better overall understanding of the Investment Industry which I can apply on a daily basis. As I am working in Compliance I do not get to experience all aspects of the business so I'm hoping this will help broaden my knowledge of other areas.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of options to choose from. I'm currently part of the netball team which has matches every week and there is a free gym at work which is really good to use in your free time. I have already mentioned the i2020 events which can be socials or insight days into the industry- both are great!

  • 9a. Would you recommend Schroders to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It has been such a great experience which I know not many people will get to have straight out of school and I feel like now I'm ready to go to University after the traineeship ends knowing what I want to do career-wise which I definitely did not know before!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Schroders?
  • I would say to be confident; do your research and remember to be yourself if you get an interview. It seems like an intimidating process but it is true that nobody is trying to catch you out, your interviewers just want to find out more about what kind of person you are and if you would be a good fit for Schroders!
