  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Each day I would receive a job at various different sites. Our job involved identifying and fixing faults , installing new equipment and carrying out routine maintenance checks such as greasing ,belt changes etc. This was required so that the site and all assets on them were running correctly and treating the water effectively.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Overall the structure of the apprenticeship was okay . The communication between the college , Severn Trent and the apprentice however was lacking on some occasions. With it being months without being told anything or being updated on what we were doing . We spent some days at college trying to find a manager or tutor that could tell us what section we were meant to be on hydraulics pneumatics etc as no formal plan was given to us . However this is already being improved upon

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Overall support received from the employer was good there were numerous opportunities to get involved with activities and projects outside of college and work. These projects improved problem solving skills and helped us to interact with customers. If there were any problems or issues we could speak to a line manager or apprentice manager who would try everything they could to resolve any issues .

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • All the NVQ/ trailblazer assessors were excellent in guiding us towards completing our qualifications who really worked hard to identify what we needed to complete as the trailblazer qualifications were the first ones to be done by severn Trent and EEF . These assessors were always available by phone if we had any questions. The assessors at the college we’re also great , they passed on all the relevant materials and knowledge we would need in order to complete assessments and assignments.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Completing two qualifications has enabled me to complete the basics skills and knowledge I need to carry out my job both effectively and safely. The nvq has given me the ability to ensure I have all the core skills required to carry out my job role . The trailblazer then backs this nvq up by working on specific assets I would be working on in my job role
