  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have been working in Internal Audit since the start of my apprenticeship. My role originally was providing administrative support to the rest of the department along with a few other pieces of work I was asked to get involved in such as ad hoc projects and investigations. By being within Internal Audit, it has allowed me to meet people from all over the company on a day-to-day basis which has helped me grow my knowledge of the company and the insurance market we operate within.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The biggest skill I have learned since being in my role is how to act and behave in a professional environment. This is something I was worried about when I first joined the company, however the induction you are asked to attend as part of your onboarding process helps you find your feet within the company.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed my apprenticeship programme as it gave me the confidence to take the next step in my career. The team I joined were brilliant at helping me settle in and the company has a great ethos around helping apprentices within the business. From day one, you are treated as a regular employee and that really helps you to settle in.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As part of your onboarding process, you are given a training track which sets out your apprenticeship programme in significant detail. You are given support throughout the programme from the HR department at Wesleyan with quarterly meetings with other apprentices in order to keep in touch. As part of the programme, you are also given an opportunity to go on a work experience placement in another department which helps to broaden your horizons and experience of the whole company.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As part of your apprenticeship, you have a monthly catch up with your line manager and quarterly meetings with the HR team at Wesleyan. Further, you are allocated a mentor who you will have monthly meetings with in order to run through any concerns or issues you are having as part of your job. The company is very supportive of all of its apprentices as a general rule and there are always people who are willing to help wherever they can.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As part of the course that I took, the support I received from my college tutor was second to none. I had monthly meetings with my tutor who was also available via email or phone if necessary. Furthermore, you are introduced to former apprentices at Wesleyan who are also willing to help if needed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Being a QCF, the modules that you take are decided by the student so they can be as tailored to your job role as you need them to be. You choose your modules with the assistance of your line manager to ensure you can evidence all of what you need to in your normal day-to-day role. This means that everything you learn within your course, you can use in your day-to-day role and vice versa.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • With the company being based in the centre of Birmingham, this allows for social events outside of work. Also, there are many charity initiatives that you can get involved in within the city centre. Furthermore, every year, every employee gets an additional day of leave to spend volunteering on a project of your choosing such as a charity or a community centre for example.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Wesleyan to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great company to work for with a great ethos with loads of great people who will help you to progress in your career as far as you want to. Also, the company has a great history of apprentices going onto higher positions within the company which is great for your career to progress.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Wesleyan?
  • Be yourself when applying for a role and take every opportunity that comes your way. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help either when applying for the role or when you are in the role. There are plenty of people around who would be more than happy to help you out!
