  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Each day begins with a stand-up where each person details their previous days work, what they intend to do on that day and if there is anything blocking them. Aside from this I am involved with multiple projects and engage in work and meetings related to these. I am constantly collaborating with other members of my team to produce work and create ideas.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am constantly developing new skills from coming into work but I have development more tangible skills through web based learning. An example of this would be an eight hour business analyst course that I completed which was important as it is a basis for my day to day contributions.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I strongly enjoy my course through both the daily work I do in my team and the study outside I complete outside of this with the other apprentices who also work at the same company as me. I look forward to coming in each day which I feel is an extremely valuable asset to have within a working environment.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • In terms of the study side of my programme I definitely feel that there is room for improvement in terms of the organisation as several of my colleagues have had problems with effective communication with the course provider. On the flip side organisation within the company has been excellent and I feel everything so far has been well structured

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a high level of support from my employer through flexibility of my study days and through more personal support from my assigned counselor and buddy. I feel confident that if I have any problems relating to work or study that I could approach members of my team for help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have access to online lectures and documents relating to my course as well a bi-termly two day workshops to attend. We also have regular meetings with a skill coach where have a lot of free reign to discuss any issues that we might have. Saying that, communication between lecturers and students doesn't seem to be particularly effective and could definitely be improved upon.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Having only completed one term towards my qualification so far it is difficult to give a definitive response however the module I have done has direct relevance to the role that I am currently doing. Looking toward the future at the modules that I have for the remainder of the year it seems that all of them will impact the work, and my ability to do that work, in one way or another.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My work strongly encourages networking and hosts several big networking events each year. More closely relevant to me my team is enthusiastic about arranging social events as well as sporting activities to be completed within the team. On top of that I am aware of various sporting teams within the business but haven't personally attended any of them.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • In my experience EY is strongly embracing change particularly in the technology sector and because of this they want to invest in the future. A result of this is the decision to offer the digital apprenticeship programme which I think shows a clear buy-in to the younger generations and our potential.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • My biggest tip would be to be yourself throughout the various stages of the application process. I believe that EY is focused on finding the right people for the job and hence if the job is right for you then you will be successful. In the same way it should not be disheartening to not be successful as the business believes that you would not be right for the role.
