  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • At Softcat, my role is corporate account manager. I have around one hundred and fifty account under my name. My day is mainly cold calling accounts and companies trying to get a gauge of their current IT environment and finding out a scope to see whether or not they have a need for my assistance.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The first skill that I had no idea how to do coming in to the job role was cold calling. Through being here for a few months I have been developing my skills and have been told that I have grown confidence over the phone and conversing with my customers.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying Softcat. Everyone in the office is very nice and when walking in to the sales floor there is a real buzz. You are given a sort of independence which is nice but then there are always people on hand who are more than helpful whatever the task is.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the programme us really well run. We have 2 lots of full day training every month. One is a look into the reasons behind sales and the processes we go through in our day to day lives. The other is on the job training to make us become better salesmen and helping our techniques and improve our skills.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am really impressed by the support given at Softcat. We have specialists in each department who are always happy to help with any queries I have. They jump onto calls with customers and help with getting quotes from vendors. We also have apprentice managers and experienced team leaders who are also happy to help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • XXX and XXX are very supportive when working towards our qualification. XXX is helping us write out our portfolios and sending out useful techniques to help us get the best mark possible. We also have a huge folder with XXX that we work on during our training sessions so we can look back on for help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like Remit's training really does help towards me performing better in my role because by improving my techniques it can make me better at my job by being able to converse with customers getting more information out of them and then finding the best possible solution for them.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At Softcat there are a range of extra curricular activities. I am a part of the Monday Night Football where we play 6 aside, that team then occasionally play other companies in 11 aside games including Microsoft and Ernst and Young. We also have our annual kick off event where the whole company gets together.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Softcat to all my friends. The culture here is like no other company and with the all the fun going on, there is also a high level of professionalism and success. People here that start from the bottom either apprentice or graduates can definitely make it up to the top.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Softcat?
  • The advice I would give to others that are applying is to not be afraid to ask questions. The best way to learn new things is to ask questions and get involved with all departments and you will make new friends quicker and learn your job role better as you go.
