  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Supporting Students in and out of lessons, to help them achieve the required lesson outcome. Support outside of teaching hours in the form of extra curriculum activities. Helping students with array of learning needs and difficulties. Collecting data, on the students progression and inputting them into a shared working document. Marking students work and creating feedback based on the students work and learning.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • This was my first work place. I learned how to effectively work with children of different ages and a range of different learning needs. This Experience gave me the required skills to continue in the profession and develop my own teaching style to help support and teach others in the future.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the job in the first instance. The adrenaline working with students and seeing them develop and learn while being taught a new skill or subject. Throughout my time at this work place however the work load became increasingly more intense and jobs outside of the job description was forced up on me. This and the continuing loss of staff moral, caused me to quit in the end.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • What can I say on this one? The work side of this program was constantly structured due to the way I enjoy my life being. The college/learning side of the program was constantly unstructured and was a difficult learning environment to be in. Coursework was marked inconsistently and was occasionally lost.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received a lot of mental support during a short crisis I was having during in my life. however in terms of work, I felt constantly under valued and extremely unwanted. Another reason I quit was I felt I was pushed and forced out of the job by a very rude member of SLT.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I was allocated 3hrs on a Tuesday afternoon at the college, and as mentioned before was constantly unstructured and was a difficult learning environment to be in. Coursework was marked inconsistently and was occasionally lost. There was many times due to this I opted to stay in my workplace and work independently through the qualification objectives to complete the apprenticeship early.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The objectives need to complete the qualification help me learn how to effectively work with children of different ages and a range of different learning needs. This Experience gave me the required skills to continue in the profession and develop my own teaching style to help support and teach others in the future.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • CPD (Continuous Professional Development) were on every Monday to help further our training. There was termly staff parties and a wine raffle every term too. There was staff groups and for sporting events and we had a Sherpa system where we were allocated a member of staff to secretly buy gifts for.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Northern Education Trust to a friend?
  • No


  • 9b. Why?
  • The feeling of being constantly bullied by the Senior Leadership Team, Overworked, over used and constantly tired while working on an apprenticeship wage is not a nice feeling. Constantly working outside of contract hours meant they drained me of every penny I was worth. Feeling constantly exhausted. The day I quit I had the biggest relief and felt so much lighter.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Northern Education Trust?
  • Just Don't. If for whatever reason you decide to continue with accepting to work for them. Stand your ground, don't allow anyone to get you to do jobs and tasks out side of your job description and ensure you stick your work hours, and claim on time they owe you.
