  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Hermes Level 2 Application Support Developer Daily tasks include producing reports using data gathered as well as answering support tickets, this could be things such as password resets or problems with systems, another thing you do as part of the job is to monitor systems to make sure they are all working correctly and there are no errors.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • At the end of the apprenticeship you receive a BSc Honors Degree in Digital and technology Solutions. During the job I have developed skills with programming, SQL and many other skills that are used with the day-to-day jobs.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy working here as I believe the workload is suitable for an apprentice and also everyone is very friendly and always looking out for you to help.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Hermes?
  • I feel valued in the workplace as I am set with tasks that contribute towards the running of the business, I also get feedback from people which helps me improve.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program was quite organized as we firstly were sent to an assessment center which was well planned and then when employed we were sent out on a week induction where we visited various parts of the business such as radial van drivers, BDE's and courier services to get a better idea about what the business is about. I am supported very well as I have a line manager that helps a lot as well as colleagues that look out for me. I am also given a day each week to stay at home and complete any university work which I think is very good.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I am supported by my training provider (Leeds Beckett University) very well as I have a tutor that looks after all of us and helps with any concerns we've had with the course.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive very good support from everyone at Hermes, there are various people in the workplace that help me, one of them being my line manager who coaches me to give me skills for the job, my colleagues are always also willing to help support and take time out of their day to arrange meetings solely to teach us.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I think the salary is good for a young apprentice as there isn't much you have to pay for at a young age as most won't have their own house/apartment, the salary also covers for costs of travelling well.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are some opportunities outside of work but I don't personally participate as I like to have a lot of my own social time.

  • 9. Would you recommend Hermes to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It's a place where you are able to develop skills and gain experience while making a living and is a good place to do this due to the support of the people there.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hermes?
  • Try your hardest to stand out from the rest, don't be too loud and take over people but give others the chance to speak and the assessors will notice this.
