  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I was an intern in which I would carry out info reviews, sending letters to clients and third parties and organising paper work. I would mainly interact with the members of the team I was part of. The team were very friendly and informative. I also was able to take part in e-learning sessions in such areas as business writing and presentation skills.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained lots of new skills and have also enhanced existing skills. The business academy course provided optional e-learning courses to participate in during our week, these allowed me to develop skills in such areas as business writing and presentation skills. The business writing was particularly useful when I had to write letters to clients. We also had regular meeting with our team leader to discuss the week and any goals we had, I found this particularly useful because they would give me feedback on areas in which I wanted to develop (S.M.A.R.T. goals).

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the programme in many ways. the first way was that I was able to ask questions throughout my time working which allowed me to further understand the mechanics behind certain processes, this was also helped by the informative answers in which the staff provided. I also enjoyed the work that I was doing, one of the reasons for this was that I enjoyed using the information learned from my buddy in the work set and that in the tasks that I did there was always something different to the last adding a new challenge but also another learning opportunity. I also working within the team because they were really friendly.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel the course was organised very well. The inductions we received from the staff involved in the business academy were very clear. We also received an I.T induction through Skype which was very useful in telling us on the various pieces of technology we would need throughout the week. There was lots of support available which further helped me with understanding the programme.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I received lots of support form EY. Throughout the week we had one on one meeting with our team leader. These meeting helped provide feedback especially in the final meeting which helped summarise your progress during the business academy week. There was easy to access support in the programme this is because you work alongside both your buddy and your team leader so you can ask any questions you have easily. Further more you can also ask questions to staff members via Skype which made the process even easier. The attitude towards support was great as my buddy was always willing to answer any questions I had. Also fellow team members were wiling to help me with any issues I had during the week.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I had no change in the costs of :living, travel, daily and social costs.I was really happy to with the pay package we received for the week. This is because during the week we were treated to meals from EY on three different occasions though going to a restaurant and also getting food like sandwiches given to us for lunch on our first day. I was really happy that I got paid for thee week because it was an absolutely superb experience for me.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • While I was there we did have a dress down day on Friday (for charity) in which I participated. There was also the ability to go out for food during lunch. I also went out to lunch with some of the staff part of the team I was working with to a restaurant. Outside of work I would work on my business academy learning journal and would review the notes that I made during the day.

  • 9. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The EY team looked after me throughout my time in the Business academy. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. It also provided me with knowledge of what working in the particular service line would be like, which lead to me wanting to work in that service line even more. It was such a friendly environment and I got a great insight into what working for a big 4 accountancy firm would be like.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I would give the advice of being yourself. The main reason for this is that I met many people who had very unique personalities and I feel being your self will be the best way to becoming part of the team. During the application process I did not hear anything form the business academy for three months in which after they confirmed my place, so don't panic if you don't get responses immediately.
