I worked as a Marketing and Communications Apprentice for 11 months but this was more of an admin role. The apprenticeship was a Business Administration qualification, and I was tasked with printing, photocopying, diary management, event planning, filing, invoicing, and social media and design work. I worked closely with the office manager and communications officer, and had good exposure to the wider charity.
I learnt basic office admin skills, and expanded my interest in marketing. I learnt to use Adobe Photoshop, as well as becoming comfortable with content management systems.
I enjoyed the programme, it was a great entry to working life. The team were lovely, and the company was a charity so it felt rewarding to be giving something back whilst at work.
I was valued by the organisation, and was seconded into another position upon completion of my apprenticeship. I got involved in a range of marketing tasks, as well as leading internal comms projects.
It wasn't particularly reflective of the job I was doing, and this was the big let down for me. It would be great to see more pure marketing-based apprenticeships. However I had regular 1-2-1s and assessments.
My tutor wasn't particularly friendly or supportive. I received more support from the Office Manager.
The employer was very supportive and allowed me to develop into a new role upon completion. My mentor in particular was an invaluable resource, and all problems were dealt with swiftly
It would have been impossible for me to complete this training had I not stayed with my family. The wages were poor and didn't cover living costs
At the time, there were several company activities that happened in the duration of my employment. Leisure and sports were not catered for
No
I wouldn't recommend an admin apprenticeship to someone who wants to get into marketing, as it isn't the simplest route or best grounding.
The application process was easy - I think the negative was in my expectations not being met in terms of course content and opportunities in marketing
