  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role at M&G was as compliance , compliance are a group of people who basically makes sure that the company goes by the rules, they go through all information that is logged, so like dinner dates ,any gifts and entertainment and then they make sure it doesn’t look as if they are bribing a company they want to work with or it doesn’t seem as if a company is bribing them. E.g If you have set up a dinner with a company you plan to invest with you log it onto the system (which needs to be approved before you actually go with it) .Things such as having a dinner with a company that you through plan to invest with have to go through certain checks. If the dinner cost more than £75 you have to log it on the system which is then looked at by compliance and your manager which can either be approved or denied The meeting set up can not be at a sporting event they were allowed to do it before but now can not, if it was a sporting event it would automatically be denied . On each day I had a chance to go to different departments and learn new things each day, I had a chance to speak to most of the people that work at M&G they were all very nice and welcoming. I was allowed to go to a lot of different meetings and learn a lot of new things . At the meetings I was able to say what was on my mind and take notes. They didn't judge me on what I said. People generally made me feel comfortable and calm I was not afraid to ask for anything.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I’ve learnt that investment banking is not a thing where you hand your money to a company, where they do whatever they want with your money. They then end up doubling what you gave them but you still end up getting a small proportion of the money leaving you in a problem not being able to do things for your older self (e.g pension) and family things (such as being able to take your child to school and being able to by a house),Instead they invest your money into different things (to decrease the risk of you losing all your money) to double the money you handed to them they then give it back to you. Helping you with thing like pension , taking your children to school just things that you might need to do in the future. I have also learnt that you do not need to go to university to able to work here I also learnt how to use a whole range of different sites.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • What I enjoyed most was the meetings, they allowed me to get a wider understanding on thing that happened at M&G and how M&G worked . The meetings allowed me to engage with the workers and state things on my mind without being judged I also enjoyed being able to interact with different people all over the building from different departments I also loved being able to feel like I actually worked at M&G and not feel like just a work experience student. The people at M&G were very welcoming when they first saw me. They offered to make me tea some gave me advice. They made me feel comfortable.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by M&G?
  • I feel like ive been accepted by a company that has given me a chance to try something new and be part of a big picture. My manager was a very nice person he was always checking how I was how I was feeling and if I needed anything to do he made sure I always had something to do and that I was not always bored

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • When I first came here we had an introduction and got everything sorted for the week. They introduced us to our managers and we were able to talk to the other students and socialise with other people around the company we were given time to ourselves.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I was able to ask my advisor anything without feeling shy, he was very understanding and gave me time to settle in . he didn't force anything on me he allowed me to do what I was comfortable with.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get support from people all over the company if I was going somewhere and couldn't find it I am able to stop anyone and ask for directions without feeling afraid. I can ask for anything and be able to get it .

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • since this was only a weeks worth of work experience and I am still in school I did not get paid .

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • since i've been here there has been lots of events that I unfortunately was not able to be apart of because it was confidential and I can not drink.

  • 9. Would you recommend M&G to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because M&G is a fantastic opportunity that will open your eyes to see that no matter what you are able to get an investment job without having to go to university. M&G should be a something that is introduced to everyone.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to M&G?
  • That don't be afraid because everyone here is lovely and caring and you are more then welcome to come and join the team. The application process might be long but they just want to make sure that you are serious about working here.
