  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Injury claims handler - dealing with solicitors, negotiating and valuing medical reports, court proceedings, deal with fraud. Answer the phone and make outbound calls, have discussions re liability with third party's and policy holders.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Recently joined injury - learnt a lot about liability and how it is dealt with in injury. completing my Level 3 Cii which is tough along a busy full time job however I have learnt a lot and now understand a lot more - some methods I was using without even realising so I now have a better understanding as to why we may do things.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my job however it can be quite stressful - I struggle to find time in work to complete/revise for my apprentiship. I have a supportive team and leader and I think I really meet my expectations. I haven't yet been here a year and only had arounf 3 weeks of training but I can confidently deal with a file end to end.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by RSA Insurance Ltd?
  • I sometimes feel as though we are just robots and we have things piled on us which we cannot complete however we are expected to. I sometimes I feel our goals and targets are set to high. I feel I work to the best of my ability but I will struggle to get a outstanding rating and that is due to the targets.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I do not feel our team is big enough for the amount of work we have coming in. this then effects me doing any extra revision/training in work for my apprentiship. I am supposed to have meetings weekly about how I am doing however these seem to be hit and miss due to the work position across the dept.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I feel my training provider is helpful and you can call her if and when you need her. she is friendly and makes you feel comfortable.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I had a lot of trouble trying to establish how much time I am allowed for revision. it never used to be an issue, then it became an issue as we got busier. when is started the apprentiship I was told and allowed 20% of my work hours out to do revision which is 7 hours a week. this was raised with HR or the manager who deals with the apprentiship and he said its 20% of the time I do at home, but this did not seem right and could be hard to prove. I am now allowed 3 hours a week .

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I travel daily from saddleworth to Huddersfield. I spend £200 a month on fuel just getting to work. even if I got the train I would be paying ridiculous amounts. pay rises can be low and sometimes cant even see the difference - the ratings effect your pay rise and going back to earlier, no matter how hard we work it is hard to get a decent rating due to targets.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I enjoy horse riding going to the gym and going out with friends. I don't tend to go out with my colleagues from Halifax as I am quite young and there is a big age gap however I do see old colleagues from the Manchester office which I enjoy and nights our are planned.

  • 9. Would you recommend RSA Insurance Ltd to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
