  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed many skills, physically and mentally. I have learnt the etiquette of a working professional office, and I feel that this matured myself as a person. I have also developed my face to face communication skills as a I am meeting new people on a day to day basis, this has massively increased my confidence

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I massively enjoy working as an Apprentice at Hiscox as I not only feel welcomed, I feel appreciated by all of the colleagues I work with. I can also see my future/a career being built in front of me which grows on a day to day basis. It is fantastic. I was extremely worried/nervous when starting the job but I was quickly calmed and slowly worked myself into the furniture.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Hiscox?
  • Yes, I do feel valued by Hiscox. I feel that they understand the pressure of coming from school and joining the workplace, and the level of standard of maturity and intelligence that doing so takes. I feel that during team events/projects my opinion is always asked of, to make sure that as an apprentice I get my say and let people know my ideas, I always feel that these are noted.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of my programme could do with some work, it is not made clear from the start what you are going to be doing over the year, meaning I was leading my work on a week to week basis. It would of been nice to try a few roles over my apprenticeship to get to learn all aspects of the business but instead I have been put into one team and that is it. On the whole though I am happy with my apprenticeship

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My training provide meets with us monthly to check up on what we have been doing and how we are getting along. We also have safety chats about things going on in the workplace, which is nice and comforting. The training provider also provides revision sessions if requested for upcoming insurance exams which is also extremely helpful. They have a very positive attitude into progressing our career in the best way possible, I am very glad they are there to help

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My company provide excellent support. Wether I need to talk to my manager about a provide matter outside of work, or HR about an issue I am facing. They do an amazing job and listening too what I have to say and then taking action on it. I have also been provided with a Mentor which is great for helping me when I need advice on something, before I go ahead with it and make a mistake.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary at the start is okay, it covers my daily costs (food) and my travel, but due to my travel being so far/expensive I don't have LOADS of spare cash each month to do everything I want, but still plenty money for an 18 year old, who is earning and learning. Especially more than if I had of gone to University and racked up a £50k debt. There are pay rises throughout the year though which make the difference

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Hiscox host a variety of social events across the year, it is fantastic. Every year there is at least a summer party, and a Christmas party. Hiscox go all out on these events and they are some of the best nights/days you will have. There are also lots of sporting events, be it football, netball, rugby there are tournaments internally or eternally with other syndicates in the market all year round too. There are also plenty of other Adhoc events after work through the calendar year

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is an excellent place to work, with a thrill to thrive. A very positive, new member friendly environment and something that any person with aspirations would want to be a part of. It is also a market leading company, meaning the potential for growth is massive. Also that success is all but guaranteed alongside hardwork.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hiscox?
  • The tips I have for someone applying to Hiscox are, show commitment, passion and aspiration to your career and make the interviewers believe you NEED this job, and not just WANT it. Stay calm, tell the truth and just be yourself. Hiscox love real people. If you get into an assessment day, take the lead in challenges/events you are doing but still make sure you take note and actually consider everyone else's opinions
