1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Team Leader - I run the shift and lead the team to serve the customers and complete all daily tasks. I am the duty manager for the store when the manager/duty manager is not on shift. I do the cash office, receive and work deliveries, serve customers, Lead the team to provide great customer service. Deal with any visitors or contractors we get in store.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt how to communicate to the team, how to communicate to individuals to get the best out of them. To stand up and speak to the team in huddles giving eye contact at all times. Learnt how to promote our products and services and how to help the team to upsell and cross sell.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy the apprenticeship. I have met lots of new friends who are doing the thing. I really enjoy going to the learning conferences because it has given me lots of confidence to be able to stand up and talk to people. I have enjoyed learning about the business and the skills you need to sell your products and services.

4. How valued do you feel by Co-op?

I am valued by my manager. I am always wanting to learn new things. I try and get involved in as many new tasks as I can so I can learn new things. I have done alot of things in the community to help raise money for our local causes.

5. How well organised/structured is your programme?

The course is well structured. There were a few things at the beginning that were confusing until we got up and running. The support I get is good. I get 8 hours a weeK for my apprenticeship Which I find really useful to complete all my work. I get plenty of time to complete my assignment work but if I am struggling the tutors are there to help.

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

I recieve lots of support from my training provider. They explained everything at the start and introduced themselves. I was allocated a tutor who is always at the end of a phone if I am struggling. The tutor keeps incontact on a regular basis. I enjoy having the 1 on 1s with my tutor it just gives me the confidence to ask for help if I need it.

6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

Due to having a new manager to the business its been hard to receive alot of support from him as he is not sure about apprenticeships. Things have got better in the last few weeks because I have been showing him what I have been doing. He as also spoken to my tutor on my review and she explained alot more things to him. The co op team who deal with the apprenticeships have been really helpful.

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

The salary is good. Co op pay well anyway. I get 8 hours a week to complete all my off the job training which is good because I can get on with my assignment work without having to rush it. I get paid travel expences whenever I go to the learning conferences which is really good.

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

I get involved with alot of charity and community activities when I am not at work.

9. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?

9b. Why?

Co op is a good company to work for if you want to progress in your career.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?

The interview can be tough you have to make sure your prepared for it. Make sure that you really want to do the work, there is alot of assignment work involved that you have to complete. If you really want to do it then go for it. You have to drive your own development with it but you learn lots of new things and meet new people.
