Costume Apprentice on PYC and Casualty. I do the daily turn around which is the washing and ironing which is needed for the next day. Preparing, garments that are needed on set, helping on set with actors. Mending anything necessary. I also have o interact with different departments such as makeup and art to achieve the overall look of characters. I am responsible for making sure that costumes are in the rght place at the right time to ensure the smooth running of filming and the department.
I have learnt many skills whilst working here, I have learnt many different tricks to the costume trade, as well as developing on existing skills such as communication- this is due to having to work with a wide range of people and needing to act quickly and efficiently. I have also had o undergo GDPR, working with children and data protection training internally and manually handling externally.
I reallyenjoy the overall experience, I like the team that I work with and have fun whilst working. I like that each day is varied and there is always lots to do.
I always feel appreciated by the team that I work with and I always receive positive feedback from tasks given.
The programme is very structured I spend some weeks at college and the remaining time at work, this allows me to concentrate on one project at a time.
I always receive a lot of support from my training programme, they help me with my course work but they also make sure that I am happy in my work place. They are a really good team and lovely people.
In my team they always provide support on a regular basis. I also receive support form the production office with regards to my hours and how much leave I need to take.
Not well, with how far I have to commute and the hours that I work- I find it hard to be able to keep costs down as the time that I finish it is usually late and I have to buy food at work- which is expensive.
Due to the hours there are not many opportunities outside of work, but they are sometimes wrap parties.
Yes
Overall, it is a great experience I have met some amazing people and had the est experience here and it will help me in the long term.
The interview process is daunting as hell, but you have to be yourself as that is the person that they would employ, it is also important to just take everything as it comes because this job especially can be very stressful and full on.
