  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently panel building which involves fitting shelves for all the components to go on. I also fit breakers into the boards insuring they are safe and secure. Also we also wire the breakers up to all the meters so they can be read correctly. All of this is greatly helpful within the job.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Before my apprenticeship I had no panel board or electrical experience. Being on this apprenticeship I have learnt about electrical components and how they work and how to be connected correctly. I have also learnt how to use power tools safely.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I like being part of the Schneider team because they are all willing to help me if I am in need. Also manufacturing massive panel boards from the business gives you massive satisfaction especially when they are for customers such as Tottenham Hotspur FC and Coca-Cola.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Schneider Electric?
  • Schneider is a massive worldwide company that creates quality products so to be apart of that makes you feel a sense of pride and achievement. I feel I am treated equally to everyone else within the business which makes work more enjoyable.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Within the college programme I have to attend on a Monday and Tuesday that wasn't organized at all to begin with and had me in the wrong group for the first 3 weeks but from Schneider point of view I knew what was happening and there view and plan on my apprenticeship experience within the business.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • To me everyday somebody is showing me a new way of doing things and making sure I no the most affiant and best ways of applying the skills I have learnt so everybody is teaching me but if I have training on a product or a new release they insure everyone is clear on what is going on and happy 100% they know what to do.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager always comes and makes sure I am okay and happy with everything. He also assigned me a mentor just encase of any problems of who is really supportive not only with work but with any problem I may have.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • As far as salary I feel it is okay for an apprenticeship but I am 21 with a lot of expenses going out such as new born baby, car, rent, food it doesn't really leave me much for any enjoyment for myself but I understand as I stay longer the pay will increase.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Since I have started Schneider I have made a number of new friends from all areas of the business who invite for out and to events or even just for a casual drink. I am also always getting emails about promotions and offers we can receive as being a member of Schneider witch in some cases really helps out.

  • 9. Would you recommend Schneider Electric to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because its a great company in which you can learn a whole load of new skills and quality's. Everyone who works within the business is so helping and understanding about the apprenticeship role as its about learning to the best of your ability. As long as you committed and willing to learn you'll get all the help you need.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Schneider Electric?
  • My first bit of advice is don't worry because its a big company. Everyone makes you feel welcome and part of the team straight away which makes you enjoy the job even more. I would also say being keen and really eager to learn new things is what the company look for the most as I had no experience but was very eager to learn.
