  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role at Capgemini is as a Software Tester. My day-to-day activities vary greatly due to the nature of the role. This involves a good mix of technology and people skills. I work with API's, programming languages & automation technologies but also have to report back to the client on testing progress. Due to the client activities as part of the role, I often get the opportunity to travel across the country to different locations and work with people at all levels of the company.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Over the past year, I have learned & built upon many different skills. When I joined Capgemini I had little exposure to XML, Java & JSON. However, in the business, I was paired with a mentor who showed me how to use and apply these different technologies. Furthermore, I feel like I have built up not just my technical skills but also my confidence. Due to the client side activities of this role (demos, queries, progress reporting) I have grown my communication skills both in and out of the corporate environment.

  • I think the programme provided by Capgemini is fantastic. I have a fully varied role which prevents my daily activities becoming repetitive, keeping my job interesting and enjoyable. The ability to travel is one of the things that I enjoy most about my role - it gives me the chance to have new experiences and interactions.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme that I am part of, the higher apprentice scheme, has been well structured and easy to follow. I was provided with over two months of technical training to begin with so that I was able to seamlessly assimilate into my business unit. I have had a view of timelines for my apprenticeship, targets and had regular update meeting to discuss progress.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Capgemini have provided many opportunities for their GAP students. There is always something that you are able to participate in, be it physical or technical. Capgemini take part in many charity and giving back events which benefit the development of the local communities and help young people get into work. There are further opportunities to work with schools to interview and coach students, helping them to develop and improve so they get a boost into the working world.

  • 9. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The competitive pay, external activities, varied work and friendly working environment make Capgemini an ideal company to work for.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • For anyone applying to Capgemini as an apprentice, I would suggest that they focus on their personal skills and traits. A lot of the work here is done as a team so I think it is important to be willing to work as a team and communicate with others. I would also say that as an apprentice you should be willing to learn new skills, it isn't about having all of the knowledge know, you should be able to learn and build upon what you already know.
