  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have a split role at Softcat Plc. Monday to half of Wednesday I work with the accounts payable side of things (AP) ,of which I am set a variety of different of tasks that are needed to be completed by the end of the month. As there is an open period of when the invoices need to put on by, the accounts are being reconciled I personally do not rec accounts myself, but I do assist with the process. Below is a screenshot of the system used for inputting invoices, I have left out certain information off the example for reasons of data protection for the customer.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My time here at softcat I have learnt many different skill, Starting with my AP work they have taught me how to maintain accounts with ease and detail which is key for my job. They have also taught me how to run through statements and what I need to do once I have checked over them this in in regards to my trial balance and making sure the numbers match up. On credit control I have been taught how to send out invoices and statements with why serials need to be sent with them. Overall I have learnt three job roles which really helped with my coursework.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme a huge extent. It is much more enjoyable when the people who run the program and look after it at softcat are always extremely happy to help when they can. I have nothing but support and care for my coursework and this makes it much more enjoyable. The only thing I wish I had was to go for a different qualification but that is not the fault of Softcat.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Softcat?
  • I feel extremely valued not only from my managers and team but from the whole company. Everyone here is helpful to each other and is always happy to help. Even those who are higher in job role for example are CEO are massively caring to everyone in the company and check how we are on a weekly basis.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I find it was difficult at the start when I moved my qualification which is understandable as I was put in mid way. After it was all cleared up it became easier once I had gone through it with others who where on the same course. I get massive support from my managers and those who are already on the course.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My training provider is always happy to help when they can. We typically have a meeting a month and they check how I'm doing if I need extra support with my coursework so far I have not. It takes one email to request help and they help asap which is great! They always guide me in the right direction with the feedback they give on my coursework each month.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager does give me support but at times it is difficult for them with having to manage the whole team. But overall I think I get enough support from my manager. My mentor is always there if I need them and has helped me a huge amount with the history of softcat and giving me more work so I can write that down on my coursework overall enough support.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I am paid a great amount at softcat which allows for my petrol to work and back. It also pays for me to live at home with food in the house. It covers my daily cost of having lunch. It also allows me to use some of the money socially to go out and enjoy myself. I can also save 1/4 of my wage each month.

  • There are many social events with work. The social life we have is exceptional and I have so much enjoyment when we go to them. The best one we have had is our Business Operations weekend away where we have activities and a meal in the evening at the expense of Softcat which I find amazing.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Softcat?
  • The application process is fairly simple what you need is an eye catching CV that Softcat will look at be impressed. The interview stage is difficult you need to prove you are better than the other candidates. Dress in smart wear for example a suit that is clean with clean shoes. The interview process is hard especially for a company like softcat. They will explain the role and make sure you listen to the roles and what is entails prove you care about the role and you want it.
